And with the 15th pick, the Washington Freedom chooses.... (we have a 10 minute timeout now).

Uhhh I think we got Sandra Minnert from Germany.

Go to WUSA.com and in the right hand side of the page is a link where you can go to the draft info stuff and there is a link for the audio.

McDowell and especially Lindsey are not bad players.

The Freedom have three picks in the third round...

    18
    20
    22

Missy Gregg goes to the Freedom as the 18th pick. I thought she pulled out though.

With the 20th pick the Freedom got Darci Borski from UVA. She is a 5-3 forward.

The Freedom snagged Ruth Montgomery, a GK from St. Mary's College, and Ali Fennel, a defender from USC.

Laura Schott is picked up by the Freedom in the fourth round. She is a m/f.

So, no Pu Wei or Makinen in 2003. Does that make Lindsey and McDowell our attacking midfielders?

    Schott is a striker

Laura Schott from Cal-Berkeley is a striker. And probably the best in the draft. The freedom has got the most underrated, overlooked player possible. This is the steal of the draft. Ck. her Bio @calbears.com. She has played W/ the full WNT at the Algarve scored against Norway. Also Played Italy has 5 or 6 caps. Member of the U21 National Team 3yrs. also played w/ u-18. Broke Joy Fawcett's all time scoring record @ Cal W/ 56 goals While sitting out more than a dozen games. Injuries lead to a sub-par year her senior year. But she is full strength now. She is an extremely fast, hardbodied player who works out everyday W/O fail. The fans will love to watch this savvy soccer player. Her field vision is superior, can pass the ball on a dime. Why she got down this far has alot of people scratching their heads. She is definitely the most feared striker in the Pac-10. Washington got a steal. This player carried Cal for 4 yrs. She had very little help up front so her assists are low. Created many opportunities for the team but teamates had a tough time getting the ball in the net. Washington fans will love this player. Very modest, great personality, conservative, all about her bus. on the soccer field. She will love playing for a Great team like Washington. A dbl. Major in Poli Sci and Mass Comm. @ berkeley. I'm a Philly Fan and I say you got the best. I saw alot of Cal games. She is outstanding on and off the field. Enjoys helping out at camps and community service.EC

    Gregg?

The drafting of Gregg may actually be a very shrewd move on the Freedom's part. While she did declare she wouldn't play in the WUSA this year because of injury, the Freedom retain her rights for at least a year. She announced she was playing for the Hampton Roads Piranhas in VA. Perhaps the plan is that once Bai Jai departs the team in July, a roster spot will open up, and hopefully by then Gregg will be healthy enough to join the team. Just a thought.

As to the other forward picks, I think it will be tough for any of them to make the active roster, but they could be good as reserves since Abby and Mia may spend some time on Nat duty. The Freedom already have five very capable forwards. The additions of Lindsay and McDowell may mean some more midfielders may be on there way out of town.

I noticed there's no Skate in your lineup. Although she's a pretty good player, I can't say I disagree. Maybe someone else (NY?) will get good use of her.
