Any one else notice they are opening the upper corners?

Those are some of the best seats in the house....

Looks like they're expecting a substantial increase in attendance numbers.

I sat up in those upper corners for MLS Cup. Great seats.

To be fair, I guess they are closing down some of the 100 level seats on the other side of the GA seats....But I think this is a great move.

I think opening up the corners is a great idea, even more so if all Cat. III really is General Admission.

I understand it is all about the money, but I still think it would be more pleasing to an attendee to not have to to look and a completely barren side of a stadium

Sections 101, 102, 103, 115, 116, 117, 118, 123, 124, 125, 138, 138 and 140 could easily be mapped on to the west side of the stadium. This is using the old configuration.

This would create more "good" seats for the fans and allow fans to be on both sides of the stadium.

The new config makes the "empty" side of the stadium even more empty.

And no, before someone mentions it, I don't buy the "it looks better on TV argument". Like everything else with the organization, it is obviously easier from a monetary point of view to deal with the stadium in the old configuration.

Looking at the new configuration, I am not sure what the difference would be on cost in opening the second level vs opening the other side of the field.

As you said, its all about the money. The 2nd level shares all bathrooms and concessions with level 1. They move the staff from the 7 or so sections closed down and they are running less costs than last year.

Plus...these seats are much better than lower level corners. Honestly, if I had know they would be available I might have moved my season tickets from between midfield and the 18....

In the future, I think Section 201 would make for a great place for passionate season ticket holders.

So they save $$ and provide a better viewing area. I just wonder what it would cost to paint a big MLS or Revolution symbol over the tarp for the opposite side.....

Ignoring George's post, I'd say this is a little weird. Last year, they limit the sales to 3/4 of the lower bowl, in order to create "demand". Even at that, they frequently roped off unused Cat. 3 sections when a small crowd was expected, like there was some big monetary gain in filling up one section to the back before you let people spill into the next section. Now it looks like they're adding more sections? Looking at the chart, though, they've cut down on the number of Cat. 3 seats, so that if they get a good turnout people will have to buy the pricier tickets if they don't come early. And what's with the netside terrace? I thought that this would be in the big empty spot by the autograph area, not behind the other goal. I don't remember that much room over there. I can hardly wait until the first game that they shorten the field because they sold a lot of these seats...

Well, maybe it's just me, but does anyone think that the "Netside Terrace" is going to be similar to the configuration in Columbus where they have a similar area behind the goal as seen below (under the canopy):

The Revs could pretty much set up theirs on the concret platform used for concerts behind the south goal, taking away that available seating which is usually available in Category 3. If that's the case, this could also explain why the additional sections have been opened.

    Thoughts?

isn't anyone else concerned that they've taken away the grass under the new plan? no wonder the ccc can't be held here.

the "pros" of the new plan:
    • i think that 2nd level seating is better than the 1st level seating in the corners, in some respects. (however, this will be used only as "overflow" seating anyway.....just like the opp sides were last year)
      its g.a. in the fort.

the "cons" of the new plan:
    • they've taken away at least 2 full sections of level 3 seating
its g.a. everywhere in cat 3, so they've taken away the right for cat 3 s.t holders to have their "own seats". (i believe)

imo, the only way the new plan would make sense
    (um, from a fan perspective):
    • leave "all" cat 3 sections "open" for every single match (as opposed to last year's "open one section at a time on the computer" scheme where someone in line could've bought tix and got stuck in the last row of sec 119...only to have the people waiting behind them get seats near the front of 120)
make the fort and the cat 3 side over there the only g.a. side (its somewhat more "sunny" over there for certain games)
make the "terrace" side of cat 3 for season ticket holders that want a permanent seat. if the "terrace" is taken away for larger matches (probably not, b/c they'll market those for the gold cup and the other big match)....then season ticket holders over there can have the option to move down closer if they wish when they use the infill bleachers.

The "Net side Terrace" is just another (Kraft/Imbriano) money saving venture. By removing the stands in this area for the entire season, they won't have to disassemble/reassemble them before and after each concert.

they didn't have them assembled for every contest.

they were a bit lazy after the holland match and they stayed out there for a spell. however, they were not there for the majority of the home games. they just happened to be up for stones and river rave maybe and mls cup for sure. i think there were even times where they were "up" and rev fans couldn't sit in them. that side of the pitch was very inconsistent last season.

I bought cat 3 season tickets. There is only one section (118) that is cat 3 reserved seating, but I opted for ga tickets. When I bought them I was told that no cat 3 sections would be closed off this year.

    hey magpie,

being a harvard employee....did you see this? i found it interesting....the "upgrade" part. man, revs really going after the big money, eh?

Just another example of the "Lou plan" in effect. Go after the heavy hitters and perhaps the social elite....screw the avg fan. I wonder how many tix is the "enough" the person below is looking for? 50? 75? 100?. i had 150 for the holland match....and got zip. if i got 150 for barca....think i'd get some special treatment?......not!

I wouldn't be surprised. Though until I saw this thread, I was unaware this was happening.

That would make sense. (imagine that!)

They weren't in place for several matches last year as I recall. I imagine the Net Side Terrace won't be either. Once the Patriots season kicks in, those stands will be back in place. They may just leave them there.

If those stands won't be there to make room for a Net Side Terrace, it would be a good place for Cat 3 ticket holders that want endzone seating, but don't want to be in the Fort.
