Which teams will end up on top this season?... Here's what Im going with (even though we didnt get the new guys yet): Eastern Conference 1- Metrostars 2- Columbus 3- New England 4- D.C. 5- Chicago Western Conference 1- L.A. 2- Colorado 3- Dallas 4- San Jose 5- Kansas City im basing this on rosters as of 03:27am EST Feb. 24 2003 (i have insomnia) Metros will take the east AND supporters sheild only if we get Mario, and Sheppard, because without them, theres pretty much no GREAT mid-feild, dont get me wrong itll still be good, but it would be better. Mathis/Moreno really has to step up because both of them had disappointing seasons last year. Pope has to not miss to many games also if we get GIO back, and only if he has his old scoring touch from coming off the bench(good god i love the games seeing him come off the bench ond bang in the goals), we'd get the MLS and U.S. open cups, ut im not getting my hopes up. L.A is looking great, but teams are going to know what to expect because they didnt get rid of anyone with the exeption of Reis. They'll still pull off an unbelievable showing, they always do. NE will do OK because JMM is back, but older. Twellman will be playing with a bullseye on his back, whether it be from his team looking for a pass/header, or teams man-marking him. Fvck D.C. United, whod they get, a couple of over the hill Bastards who are only gonna get injured in pre-season? in the words of the great George Carlin, "fvck them, they suck". Colombus.......with Mcbride and Dante, they'll do great, **sighs** again. Chicago, i got faith in Sarachan, but c'mon, Faria? a guy who cant help but miss the easiest shots? especially since no one will be supplying any forwards on the team. Rapids are gonna do fine, players will see those jerseys and be scared its Inter. That was a bad joke, uuhhh... if Chungy and Henderrson have the same seasons as last, they'll be fine, but they gotta do something about that defense. K.C. are gonna bomb big time. Preki is finally(i hope) gonna have the season all other teams have been waiting for, the one he starts playing his age, not his pant size. Wolff was never that good so i dont understand what the big deal is. Dallas, same story new year. Quakes, missing Graziani, Cannon, and Barrett arent gonna do so well, unless Brian Mullan has a breakthrough season, Jon Conway has a breakthrough season, and ???????? ????????? has a break......errr ...uh..... you get the idea im gonna get disagreed with and critisized out the yin-yang for posting those comments, but what the hell, i was really bored......... if you liked my post, thanks for reading and feel free to post your own comments/if you hated it, sorry for wasting you time and feel free to post your own comments Later DRE
The Wednesday matinee against Kansas City will get about the same crowd size as when we played that Venezuelan team in the Copa Merconorte a couple of years back.
I think we will be pleasantly suprised by the turnout (camps, soccer teams, etc.). I'm planning to take the day to bring my daughter.
this is a prediction thread this is a prediction thread, maybe i shouldve made that clear when i typed "feel free to make your own comments". well im changing that line to "feel free to type your own PREDICTIONS". no offense to any of the above people on there comments, but im interested in people's predictions, not attendance figures from pointless games thank you DRE
Re: this is a prediction thread My wife and I were at the Itchy-Scratchy game as well ... that makes 5 so far. I predict that Steve Jolley will make a prediction.
Re: this is a prediction thread This is about, according to the title, 2003 Season Predictions. Since 2003 revenue generation is in the eyes of the league just as, if not more, important as Metro's season-ending position in the table, I think it's quite relevant to talk about the Wed matinee "experiment". In fact, I'll go as far as to predict that the team will be fifth in average attendance, behind LA, NE, Colorado and C-Bus. If, however, you remove that Wednesday match, we'll be fourth or even possibly third. We will, however, lead the league in merch sales. There will be 27 threads on BigSoccer throughout the season about Field Turf, two-thirds of which will be negative. There will be three threads about NJSEA brutality against the people in 101, and 11 (3 of them started by me) about the ineptitude of NJ Transit. You need to be more specific next time about what predictions are and are not acceptable to you when you start a thread asking people to make predictions.
well i actually thought people would be smart enough to followmy lead of showing the regular seeason table and a prediction of each team playing wise, but i guess i was horribly wrong on that one, for this im sorry to all of you, who arent smart enough to follow a lead. im deeply deeply sorry DRE
BrooklynGladiator I agree with you on almost everything. But heres a few things I would change. LA-Its seems like LA have put together the "perfect team" this year and will be even tougher than last year. Colorado-Colorado will have one of the strongest midfields this year with Mastroeni, Grimandi, Chung and Henderson. Dallas-Dallas still has some good players on trial and with the aquisition of Brad Davis they finally filled up their weakspot in LM. Kansas City-Preki has been the only one playing well for KC in South Africa and it will be enough to get them into the playoffs. San Jose-San Jose is gonna be the worst team in the league this season. MetroStars-If we sign all the quality players we have on trial like Shepperd, Mestre, Garnero, and Gio and plus the addition of Mario and Bradley, we're right up there with LA with the "perfect team". Columbus-It seems like McBride has found his good form and will go crazy in MLS. New England-In New England the duo of JMM/Twellman will be much better than Harris/Twellman. Midfield need some work though. DC-DC will have too many injuries and suspensions to play decent games and wont have any players to put out onto the field. Chicago-Chicago, theyre just gonna suck this year. Razov and Faria are both good strikers but how good will they be without any quality service? Thorton need to go on a Weight Watchers diet. Curtin needs a haircut. Browns gotta stop getting so many yellow cards. So heres what im going with. Eastern Conference 1- Metrostars 2- Columbus 3- New England 4- D.C. 5- Chicago Western Conference 1- L.A. 2- Colorado 3- Dallas 4- Kansas City 5- San Jose
East 1. DC United 2. Metros 3. Columbus Crew 4. New England Revolution 5. Chicago Fire West 1. LA Galaxy 2. Dallas Burn 3. San Jose Quakes 4. Colorado Rapids 5. KC Wizards Colorado's miserable back line will haunt them. Chicago's weak midfield will prevent them from sustaining possession which will hurt them both offensively and defensively. KC just doesn't have the players this year, unless Wolff is miraculously healthy all season. New England lacks creativity in central and left midfield. Columbus is weak in the back, but so strong attacking that they'll outscore many teams. San Jose returns the injured defenders (Dayak and Agoos) and Nats players (Donovan, Mulrooney and Agoos) so they'll be OK. But DeRosario's injury may hurt them early, and they have no forward depth. I think the class of the league will be the Galaxy, Burn, United and Metros. United is questionable up top, but adding Stewart, Esky, Hristo and Dema along with the return of Santino should provide a lot more options for finishers. Having a healthy Olsen and Convey coupled with Dema and Nelsen in midfield helps as well. Etch's role should lose some emphasis. United will be much improved scoring-wise. They should be comparable defensively adding Ivanov and Petke should help compensate for moving Nelsen into midfield and losing Pope. United is far deeper this season than last. Metros still have a lot of holes, but should fill them. If it takes a while that's OK too, because Bradley is clearly the best in MLS at covering for injuries without sacrificing defending. Assuming the Metros get one of each of these groups--Garnero/Mario, Sheppard/DiGimarino/Perez--they should be OK. The rookies are very good. Magee is unerrated (at least he was before MLS ran the column predicting 10 goals!), Ricardo Clark is a stud who can play DM, RW, RB, or even LM if needed. Bradley's high on Regan, and Bob usually finds a gem in defense (Gray, Curtin, Bocanegra). Dallas, much like DC, has a good deep team, but may lack the last difference maker to challenge for the crown. On paper they're great, but in reality they need Ed Johnson to step up this season. They also need tactical discipline for their Dmid Deering and their wingbacks Suarez and Gbandi/Broome. LA kept everyone and added the 3rd best player from the World Cup. Oi! They are now clearly the pace setters. -Tron
i don't feel like writing a lot so here it is...my predicted standings. Everyone has covered a lot the material already. East 1. Columbus Crew 2. Metros 3. DC United 4. New England Revolution 5. Chicago Fire West 1. LA Galaxy 2. Colorado Rapids 3. Dallas Burn 4. San Jose Quakes 5. KC Wizards I feel the east is a lot tougher to call...could really stray a lot easier than the west.
Either Mark Lisi, Craig Ziadie, or Jeff Moore will start in the Metro midfield along with (ha!) Richie Williams. And all of the draftees that everyone is creaming over will look like typical rookies, ie crap, if they ever see the field. Finally, Mike Magee will not score 4 goals all year, much less 10.
Ricardo Clark will push Jeff Moore to the bench. Mike Magee will indeed score more than 4 goals his season, but I'm not as bold as some, so I'm not predicting 10 goals! I see Richie Williams as the dedicated Dmid in a 352 playing Armas' role. I see Ricardo Clark playing Marsch's Hmid role complementing Armas and keeping possession in midfield. The mystery is who will be the creative midfielders, and where will they line up? I see both Moreno and Mathis up front with Magee as a frequent sub. In the back Pope and Jolley are definite starters, and I can see Regan fighting for that other spot. The left wing will be manned by either an attacking left back (i.e. Perez) or a tracking back left winger (i.e. Digiamarino). -Tron
Keeping in mind that "We are the Metro" and must cope with The Curse of Nicola, I predict that Clint Mathis will run into coach Bradley 2 days before practice. Mathis will break his leg and miss the entire season. Bradley will suffer amnesia forgetting alll that he knows about soccer. Two days later he will be hired by the NY Mets in spite of the fact that he knows nothing about baseball either. To keep fan interest high, Metro management will announce that an announcement about the new stadium will be made in the next 60-90 days. Sandy Canetti will be named new Metro coach, and will lead them to the MLS Cup. However, the bus driver useing directions supplied by Tom Beck will turn up in Havana. Too embarrassed to face their fans again, the Metro will relocate to Philly.
Moderators, you might as well close this thread, cause no one will be able to predict whats gonna happen oh, and i hear Romario is on his way here....
Whoah, are you some sort of master and the posters on this board and the board moderators are slaves to you and your whims? Are you trying to keep us down? Do you go to sleep at night in the mansion while we sleep in the slave quarters of cyberspace? Who are you, master?
