Well today was the deadline to name the 16 + 2 for each team. I think on Friday is when they name their 2 developmental players. Beat: http://www.theatlantabeat.com/349063.html Freedom: http://www.washingtonfreedom.com/349060.html Cyberrays (doesn't give the complete list though): http://www.oursportscentral.com/release.cfm?releaseid=26112
college deferral Good for Callie (Withers, Beat and Stanford) to stay in school three more months and graduate on time. I'm proud of her! BondOne
I'd be interested in seeing a list, for each team, of players that are new and ones that have been let go. If those knowledgeable in that area for particular teams would help me out, I'd appreciate it. Meanwhile, here's the list for the Freedom: OUT: Pu Wei (back in 2004) Ann Cook (now on CyberRays roster) Anne Makinen (now on Charge roster) Tracey Milburn Stephanie Rigamat Erin Fahey Kathy Hoverman IN: Lori Lindsey (traded from Spirit) Kelly Golebiowski (discovery/international player) Gao Hong (traded from Power) Sandra Minnert (international player, coming in early June)
Courage changes: IN Danielle Borgman D/F (waivers from Boston) Breanna Boyd D (draft) Meghann Burke GK (draft) Kelsey Carlson M (free agent/tryout) Kate Gordon F (draft) OUT Meghan Anderson M (retired) Katie Barnes M/F (waived) Emily Oleksiuk GK (retired) Staci Wilson D (waived) Kim Yankowski F (traded to N.Y.)
Charge in/out list Get the pen and paper out OUT Andrea Alfliler (cut) Rebekah McDowell (traded twice then cut) Maitie Zabala (cut) Zhou Lihong (loaned) Liu Ailing (retired) Erica Iverson (long story) Rakel Karvelsson (retired) Mandy Clemens (traded) Kerry Conners (traded) Erin Martin (cut) Michelle Demko (cut) Karyn Hall (may come back as a delevopmental) Janel Schillig (same as hall) IN Dee Arrington (draft) Hope Solo (draft) Anna Kraus (trade) Anne Makinen (trade?) Melinie Hoffmann? (allocation) Pavlina Sascina (allocation) Trina Maso De Moya (walk on) Erin Misaki (draft) Mary McVeigh (draft) Alexa Borisjuk (Waiver Claim)
? explaiations which i forgot to put in my post Hoffman is inactive pending a visa Makinen is in league limbo on her trade regarding her green card or lack therof. Erica Iverson nor the charge officially announced her retirement. this is important because I believe she may still count against the cap...otherwise she would be free and in boston by now. hence the long story caption...she is not officially retired apparently...i believe the charge site listed it as "not likely to join the team".
Could still use a list of "ins and outs" for Atlanta, Boston, and San Jose. Thanks to everyone who's posted for the other teams.
These are the main changes to the CyberRays roster since the end of last season: In: Barnes, Barr, Clemens, Cook, Sanchez Out: Bell, Borgman, Clark, Nanez, Wagner
In: coach: Pia Sundhage asst. coach: John Natale defender: Kelly Worden (reserve) midfielders: Stephanie Mugneret-Beghe, Devvyn Hawkins, Sarah Popper forwards: Marcia Wallis, Erin O'Grady (reserve) Out: coach: Jay Hoffman asst. coach: Phil Wheddon defender: Keri Sanchez midfielders: Bettina Wiegmann, Sarah Dacey, Sarah Yohe, Alexa Borisjuk forward: Allie (Kemp) Sullivan In and Out: Dani Borgman two developmental slots remain to be filled
Figures that us Beat fans would chime in last . In: Kate Antongiovanni (draft) Connie Pohlers (international discovery) Abby Crumpton (draft) Maribel Dominguez (international discovery) Ifeoma Dieke (tryout) Leslie Gaston (draft) Out: Lisa Kryzkowski (waived..now with San Diego on a tryout basis I think) Amanda Cromwell (waived) Sun Wen (retired but still on the China WNT) Liping Wang (I guess you can say she retired) Dayna Smith (retired and working in SoCal) Kelly Cagle (retired and now a head coach at some college that I can't remeber the name of) Anna Kraus (uhhh I think she got shipped to San Diego and is uhhh now in Philly?????) I hope I got it all.
Also for the Beat, Callie Withers will be IN but after she finishes up her last semester at Stanford. I don't know if she counts on our list right now but just so that we didn't forget about her I decided to post this.
Namazi still has her in training camp. BTW...according to the latest Women's Soccer Insider newsletter....the league has decided that a GK does not have to be named to one of the developmental spots.
Also from WSI, it looks like most teams are still going that route, with 5 of the 7 teams who've picked developmentals selecting at least one GK:
