    Revs take Pat Noonan.

    I am underwhelmed.

    We gagged - big time!

All the reports from the combine had Noonan looking very disappointing. Does Nicol know something no one else does?

Next pick is in 3rd, #22.

    Sigh.

I am a bit dissapointed with this pick. Given the talent that was still available, I would have much rather the Revs picked someone like Gaven or Thomas. I don't see Noonan contributing this season...and if we are going to be picking someone who won't contribute right away I would have gone with the 16 year old midfielder with loads of potential, and a future national team player instead of the 22 year old forward from Indiana that will most likely never be anything more than a 3rd forward on any MLS team. I hope that he proves me wrong...but right now I do not like this pick one bit.

Other coaches and Gms are loving the Revs right now I imagine.

If Gaven lives up to his billing in the next couple of year, the Revs Hill feel like some of those NBA teams who passed on Kobe.

... and there was much rejoicing....

    ... well, not really.

    In the words of Bluto:

"My advice to you is to start drinking heavily."

Worst pick of the first round. Sorry to sound harsh, but if we just landed ourselves a back-up to Ralston and Nowak.

Hell, at least we got rid of Chacon and got Reis.

Compared to everywhere else we're unloading while everyone else is re-loading.

Metrostars now have Ricardo Clark, Mike Magee, and Eddie Gaven. Bob Bradley could demand a contract extension from that.

    Discouraged,

    The Magpie

I should know better than to get excited about things like this. I had a lot of ideas about what we could do with picks 9 and 19, and I'd consider all of them to be better than Noonan and Reis. The best thing you can say about today is that APC is gone. Nothing against Noonan, but aside from having less potential than some of the other players he does take up a senior roster spot. This would be ok if he was going to be a big contributor this year, but I doubt if he's going to replace Ralston, Twellman, Serna/Moore, or Nowak in a hurry. I'll go out on a limb and say that, in order to draft a P-40 player, you have to file a plan with the league detailing things like housing for the player, and this was probably too much of a commitment from the Krafts.

    I feel better

Lets remember who gets paid to make these decisions. SN is a smart soccer mind and I think I'll trust his judgement until proven otherwise. There also may be factors in his choice that we know nothing about. There I feel better.

I can't help but feel that the Revs management has blown it.

It seems that we probably couldn't have drafted Eddie even if our management was competent enough to do so. With the two 16 year olds remaining with their home town teams, it looks like maybe their hands were tied, and had to leave Gaven their for the Scum to pick him.

Even if Eddie was not available to us, with the likes of Shavar Thomas, Ricky Lewis, Arturo Alvarez and Logan Pause still available there is no reason why we should end up with Pat Noonan.

I am not happy about this.

On the other hand, it may be good for the future of the national team that Gaven goes and plays for Bradley. Given our history of developing young talent, maybe all Under 17 and Under 20 National team players should stay far, far away from the Revolution roster.

i'm not disappointed. my opiion of MLS drafts are not that high. even talented players (twellmans of the world asside) are 'projects. we needed a GK and got one today, that is quality, that could step in. the best of the draft is a roll of the dice in comaprision.

besides, with the set in jello roster/trade/allocation who gives a crap about developing for the future? to much is made of drafting young talent.

makes sense if we could actually build a developmet program, but instead, at best, we'd be looking at the development of the next.... Brian Dunsth??? spare me.

there are better wasy of finding starters than the draft.

I want to keep Serna. I might be alone in this, but I think that once he's better, he'd be a great complement to Ralston and Twellman.

    19 LA - Arturo Torres
    20 LA - Ricky Lewis

I would have looked for a deal with LA to get in position to take Lewis.

    Oh good.

Why do the Revs never have a good draft?

    #22 - New England - Dimelon Westfield, F, Clemson

Oh, goody. Another forward. And as an added bonus, this one is from Trinidad, and I don't believe he owns a Green Card.

Good player, though. I actually think he might be better than Noonan is.

I don't know if you guys have all forgotten this, but reports out of the 2002 combine indicated that our very own Taylor Twellman had been very disappointing too. I think TT turned out okay.

I personally love Patty Noonan. I think he's better out wide than up front... I'm not sure if he can play on the wide left, but I love his skills.

good picks so far,,,Noonan is a player,,,not a good combine, but your not a 3 time all american and two time finalist for the Herman if u suck. Westfield was one of the best players at the combine,,,first team all combine. Maybe Nicol drafted Noonan to challenge Kamler as he does play outside,,,,,hopefully he can play on the left.

Ian Joy would be an interesting pick at some point. What do you all think?

Uh... I was AT the combine last year, and TNT scored about three goals in the first 30 minutes he was on the field. FC said going into last year's draft that he almost had to draft a defender, but after he saw TNT, he couldn't pass up that talent.
Johnny Torres WON the Hermann Trophy, and I'm pretty sure Scott Coufal was a finalist his senior year.

Today is quickly turning into one of those days when I wish FC was still in charge.

    Kyle Singer? Are they serious?

Now Singer was a stupid pick,,,,why a keeper when you just traded for a backup? Dumb,,,,,just dumb
You mean to tell me there were no leftsided mids or defenders left? right

We're as bad as the Cinncinnati Bengals when it comes to this draft thingy!

2 forwards when Joe-Max is supposedly coming back and a keeper when we already have 2 solid ones??? Unbelievable....
