    hey-

surprised no one has posted anything about this, but there's ANOTHER women's soccer tourney happening in the pacific (lol)...4 teams are competing in australia...the matildas, s. korea, sweden and mexico.

    results so far:

    AUS vs. KOR
    2 - 0

wonder what happend between the koren official and asst. ref....

    MEX vs. SWE
    1 - 1

from the sounds of that, mexico was unlucky to come out with the win and upset, as sweden tied the game in extra time....

looking forward to the next round of games...

There's been a ruling on that, I've seen it, and I'll try and dig it up. But the bottom line is that the 2-0 result for the Matildas stands, and here's another report on it, via Soccer Australia's site...

Sounds like an agressive physical approach, quite simply... although some of the news agencies here in Australia are further simplifying the incident as an "assault" (which I feel might be going a bit overboard).

In any event, the match was abandoned after 78 minutes.

Maybe any over our friends who were at the match in Canberra might shed some light on this?

    Cheers,

the Korean officials should understand that NOT all faults in the box should be granted a penalty.

S Korea escapes penalty after furore

A Soccer Australia disciplinary committee met yesterday morning to discuss the issue, and despite speculation that South Korea would be expelled from the four-nation Australia Cup, the committee took no action against the team.

in regards to the korean official, what happened is that they belived the referring in the match against the matildas was biased and unfair.

it all happened when the kroeans were denied a PK as the ref saw the foul happen just outside the penalty area but thye team saw differently and argued it shouldve been a pk. the free kick was taken and was defelected for a corner. the corner was then taken and was saved by the maildas GK who saw a fast moving kelly golebiowski (who has just siged with the freedom) and booted the ball to the other half of the feild, well palced in front of the advancing kelly g who cooly chipped the ball over the korean keeper, who she saw coming off her line, to score her 2nd goal for the night.

it was after the goal was scored did the offical walk up to the offical and grabbed her by the upper arm and started to shake her. the on field ref was only about 3-5 metres away, she saw everything and abandoned the match. the score stays.

in the end it was a fab match. :) but the weather was terrible, the aussie heat certainly made it difficult for the players & spectators.
