2002 MLS WPL Prediction League Standings through September 15, 2002: At least once every sporting season somebody does something that defies explanation, something that makes the spectator stand back and say "Wow". That somebody for the 2002 WPL is goatnutsgoal, who won the Weekly Cup for the second time in four weeks with an unprecedented 16 out of a possible 18 points. This phenomenal performance lifted goatnutsgoal five points clear of the entire field. There were six games this week. Goatnutsgoal picked all six winners, with three exact scores and two goal differentials. Amazing. The Weekly Cup: 1. goatnutsgoal......................16 2. Scribe and Son....................11 3. LMoroney, Out of Touch............10.5 5. The Perfesser.....................10 6. FlashMan, jlo.....................8.5 8. NateP.............................8 9. dred, IASocFan, Jacen McCullough..7.5 The First Division - IASocFan now has a four point lead with a week left in the season. With only five games left, there are only four people with a mathematical chance of catching IASocFan and being crowned the 2002 WPL champion. Realistically, dred has only a mathematical chance, and seems destined for a fifth place finish. The remaining challengers must all hope that IASocFan has a complete breakdown this week, or fails to post at all. Not likely. The Perfesser rejoins the top 10, and Out of Touch, MadSirAlexxx and Nate P find themselves back in the first division going into our last week. 1 (1) IASocFan 7.5 161.5 2 (4) jlo 8.5 157.5 3 (3) DenverFan1 6 156.5 4 (2) empennage 4.5 155.5 5 (5) dred 7.5 144 6 (6) soccertom 5.5 139.5 7 (7) sljohn 4 137.5 8 (10) Scribe and Son 11 136.5 9 (8) Northside Rovers 7 135.5 10 (11) The Perfesser 10 134 11 (9) Fanaddict 5.5 131.5 12 (13) Flashman 8.5 130.5 13 (11) Hal 5 129 14 (14) babytiger2001 7 122 15 (22) Out of Touch 10.5 117 16 (19) NNCRed 4.5 115 17 (21) MadSirAlexxx 6.5 114.5 18 (23) NateP 8 114 19 (15) JBlazini24 - 113.5 20 (16) Whirlwind 0 113 . . FlashMan and empennage, I assure you that themrs. a real, live woman. Not my alter ego, not a sock puppet, and not a figment of my imagination. I would refer you to a series of threads she started once entitled "How to be an MLS wife" but the threads died in the Great Crash.
I wash a s--- load of dishes for someone who is not real. And what a week it was! I only got one game right after my brilliant showing on Thursday. Freaking goatnuts got 16. I totally need some points this week like 20. Should we demand tripling the points? By the way it was how to TRAIN an MLS wife. SJ3 :0 LA NE 1:0 Met Chi2 :1 Clb
My apologies to theMrs and JLo. But it is pretty convenient that these so called threads were erased in the crash. As far as the prediction league goes, well I guess I should just resign myself to trying to go for 2nd place. Who would've thought that DC United would've won 2 games, and the Revolution would've won (other than goatsnutgoal of course). Last place teams are supposed to lose, don't they know that?
Re: Re: 2002 MLS WPL Prediction Thread #41 (with table) (9/21 and 9/22) SJ 1:2 LA NE 1:2 Met Chi 1:2 Clb Isn't a big coincidence that my picks just happen to be the opposite of IASocFan??
Thanks for the note jlo. Here is a unedited re-posting of my predictions: SJ 2:1 LA NE 3:1 Met Chi 2:1 Clb
Maybe you should send a PM to him. I would hate for someone to win in the last week on a technicality(sp?).
Re: Re: 2002 MLS WPL Prediction Thread #41 (with table) (9/21 and 9/22) Thanks for caring, empennage, and thanks for the note, jlo. I never would have have checked the thread w/o your email.
jlo -- thanks for all the work this season. will you be running any sort of play-offs prediction league? sometime during the off-season I'll try to carve out time to analyze past season results to help inform next season's point system debate...
SJ 3:2 LA NE 2:3 Met Chi 1:2 Clb One final week to try and get back into the first division to finish the season. My brain tells me to pick the Revs over my Metros, but my heart hasn't allowed me to bet against them yet, and I'm not about to start now. Thanks to jlo for setting all this up. This is the first time I've participated, and I for one have had a blast. Thanks again. JMac
Thanks to all for the kind words. Those of you who are relatively new here won't remember the start of the WPL at the beginning of the 2000 season. I had just found BigSoccer, and Spectre started the league. There were about 6 of us the first week. If you've enjoyed participating in the WPL, thanks should go to Spectre (wherever he is) and to ChadD, who stepped in and kept things running when Spectre disappeared (and who invented the Weekly Cup). sljohn, I have never been able to come up with a meaningful playoff prediction league. If you have an idea for one, by all means take it and run with it. I think the regular season is enough for me. IASocFan, you're welcome.
Hey we all get luckey once an awhile. I woke up and had a dream that the weaker teams made the end of the season great and they did. but, thanks. I just hope I can get in the first div.
