2002 MLS Supporters Charity Auction The 2002 MLS Supporters Charity Auction, held in conjunction with 2002 MLS Cup and sponsored by the Midnight Riders, will "go live" this evening starting at 5:00PM EST when a preliminary selection of items will be made available on-line through Ebay. Links to these auctions as well as others scheduled to start in the coming days can be accessed through the Midnight Riders website at: http://www.midnightriders.com/Auction/Auction.htm All proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Massachusetts Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to aid in their mission "to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families." Earlier this year New England Revolution G.M. 2002 MLS Supporters Charity Auction (Twellman Jersey Now Available!) Great stuff for a great cause. So, I'm just curious: how come these auctions weren't set up on Revs-advertiser UBid.com?
Re: 2002 MLS Supporters Charity Auction (Twellman Jersey Now Available!) Do you really wanna know? We can start with the in-house commercials and move on from there.... Seroiusly, eBay was, is and always will be the way to go when you want to offer stuff to people all over the world...
Auction A mere few days left and everything's been bid on....it's a great cause, everyone. You might not really want a Joe Cannon bobblehead doll, but all proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma organization! -Amy http://www.midnightriders.com
The 2002 MLS Supporters Charity Auction, sponsored by the Midnight Riders and benefitting the Massachusetts Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is now over. A preliminary final total of $3554.65 has been raised in bids: a figure more than double that raised for CityKicks! ($1,500) back in 1999, and well over the $2,000 goal set at the beginning of this auction. The highest bid taken was $460.00 for an authentic Taylor Twellman Revolution jersey. These funds will help the Society in their efforts "to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families." Details as to the formal check presentation are still to be determined, but the hope is to present it at halftime of the first Revolution home match of 2003. It is also our hope that Todd Smith may join members of the Midnight Riders on the field for this event. On behalf of the Midnight Riders we'd like to thank those MLS Clubs, MLS Supporters Groups, MLS Fans, and the USSF for their generous donation of items, as well as those generous souls who parted with the $$$ to bid on them. It's thanks to you that this endeavor has been such a success. Big thanks also to Midnight Riders Jon Strauss and Joe LaValley for their assistance in helping to make everything go so smoothly. Sincerely, Evan Whitney Coordinator, 2002 MLS Supporters Charity Auction
I was the leading bidder on the autographed Revs ball, then went out of town on business 12 hours before it closed. Come to find out that my father-in-law outbid me!! He did it so that he could make sure that a payment could be made without delay, (even though I could have handled it on the road). I told him that I would pay him back in full, but he still wanted to help because of the circumstances with Todd. With this example, and the thousands raised, it really warms the heart to see how good people respond in difficult times. Congratulations to all the high bidders. And to those who missed out, you too deserve credit for an incredible effort in a desire to help! Plus, as Evan mentioned, additional applause to the organizers, and those who donated items. -john
I agree. Happy to hear this auction surpassed the $2,000 goal. I second that. Big round of applause to all involved. (BigSoccer round of applause will have to do until the official check presentation - hopefully on the field in Foxboro in 2003).
