"Inside Soccer" will announce their annual awards during today's show and I have a feeling that most Courage fans will be much more satisfied with today's results for the Woman Player of the Year than they were with the voting done by the FIFA coaches. ;)

During the first hour of today's show, the guest will be USMNT and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel. During the second hour the guest will be sports agent Richard Motzkin who is the agent for both Landon Donovan and Shannon MacMillan.

As usual today's program will be on San Diego radio station KSDO 1130 AM from 4 - 6 PM PT (7 - 9 PM ET). Here's some information about how you can listen to today's program using your computer:

    KSDO Listen Live

Also if anyone wants to make any comments about the "Inside Soccer" awards, the FIFA awards, or about the Courage or soccer in general, you can call 858-560-1130. While you are waiting on hold you will be able to listen to the show live. You can also call the station and leave your number if you can't stay on hold and they will call you back and put you on the air.

Mark Zeigler Is In the Studio Today

Another one of the guests on today's show is the top soccer journalist in San Diego, Mark Zeigler. Zeigler is very knowledgeable about women's soccer and will be available to answer questions that anyone might have.

The first award of the day was just announced and Brad Friedel was named as the "Inside Soccer" Male Player of the Year. Right now the three Brians and Mark Zeigler are talking to Friedel about the World Cup and playing in England.

Hege Wins "Player Of the Year Award!!

The prestigious "Inside Soccer" Player of the Year Award went to Hege Riise with Birgit Prinz finishing a close second and Marinette Pichon coming in third. When San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Mark Zeigler was asked who his vote was for, his response was "NOT Mia Hamm!!" :D

McDermott Named As Finalist For Coach of the Year

The three finalists for "Inside Soccer" Coach of the Year were Bruce Arena, Sigi Schmid, and Marcia McDermott. Mark Zeigler announced that his vote went for Marcia McDermott, but in the end, the award went to Bruce Arena. If separate awards had been given for male and female coaches McDermott would have easily been the winner by a large margin.

Richard Motzkin On the Air Right Now!

Shannon MacMillan and Landon Donovan's agent Richard Motzkin is now on "Inside Soccer." Prior to him coming on the air Mark Zeigler called him the "#1 agent for top soccer players in the U.S.

Call 858-560-1130 right now if you want ask Richard Motzkin a question about the WUSA and the players he represents. While you are on hold you can listen to the show, but if you can also leave your number with the engineer and KSDO will call you back and put you on the air.

    Motzkin Also Represents Courage Players

I just spoke with Richard Motzkin on the air and found out that along with Shannon MacMillan, he also represents "D" Slaton and Fotop on the Courage. Most of the time of the interview was spent discussing Landon Donovan and Major League Soccer, but Motzkin also made a few comments about the WUSA that I can post later after the show is over.

Re: Motzkin Also Represents Courage Players

Here's an excerpt from what Motzkin had to say about WUSA players:

"Females that I current represent are Shannon MacMillan, Danielle Slaton, who was the defender of year in the WUSA and also a solid member of the National Team pool, Danielle Fotopolous ..... and Jena Kluegal from Boston so we have four of the women and it is an area where we will look to grow by one or two players a year."

Co-host Brian Quinn asked Motzkin if he would be interested in representing Aly Wagner and his answer was "Sure! Aly is great player - she is certainly going to go through her process determining who she is looking to hire, but she is someone we would definitely be interested in working with."

    Re: Thanks

Thanks for your positive feedback Jo and Heeligan2. As long as someone is interested I don't mind taking the time to post excerpts from some of the "Inside Soccer" interviews. What I don't enjoy doing is posting entire transcripts because it just takes me way too much time to do this. Occassionally Tsunami and Say_What post "Inside Soccer" interview transcripts over on the SpiritedSoccer.com message boards so whenever there is anything Courage related posted over there, I can always provide the links for everyone here in the Courage Forum.

  13. Do all soccer players hoping to get to the pro level hire agents?

No, actually it sounded like from some of the comments made yesterday that most of the players who want to play professionally in the WUSA don't actually have agents, although I believe that most if not almost all of the National Team players do have agents. Motzkin did say that he spends a fair amount of time advising players who don't need representation. I wish someone else had called in and asked him to talk more about this.

  15. oh ok...sorry i would have called in yesturday but i just thought of that question today

    Questions For "Inside Soccer"

No, that's okay - no need to be sorry. I was only pointing out that if more people call in there will be more opportunities to get questions answered on the air.

In fact, you can call in to the show with a question about the Carolina Courage or the WUSA even if they don't have a guest on to answer your question. Co-hosts Brian Quinn and Brian Halliday are both very knowledgeable about the WUSA and they really appreciate questions that they receive from the audience. Many times if they can't answer your question for you they will ask someone else who can give you an answer.

If you don't want to call in with questions on the air, then another option is to send them an e-mail. Here's the e-mail address for Brian Halliday that he has authorized me to post here:

    MEGA6085@aol.com

Halliday receives a lot of e-mail so just make sure you mention "Inside Soccer" in the subject line so that he will be sure to read it.

    Thank you

nordby1, for the write ups of Inside Soccer. I, too, was unable to listen in- at my folks' home with an unreliable ISP- and besides, spending some of the last 12 hours on the 'net instead of them would NOT have been good......

The info was great. It's truly appreciated.

    Happy New Year to ya.

Thanks for the recap nordby1! I really wanted to listen to Richard Motzkin, but I had previous plans and couldn't listen.
