It's finnally started and football season is over, yay! Well that's at least how Kansas fans look at it. Once basketball season starts they no longer have to pay attention to a pathetic football team. Anyways... I'm getting giddy, this is my favorite time of the year. By the time of first tip-off, NFL season is halfway over and going into the home stretch, mid-terms are finished with, and it's college basketball almost every night. But with Kansas coming off a Final Four appearance, I'm even more excited about this seasons prospects. As far as I'm concerned this season it is Kansas and Arizona, then everyone else. These two teams are loaded with talent right now it's not even funny. Both possibly have about 10 NBA players between them. I know Kansas has 5 becuase there's no much doubt that our starting lineup of... PG - Miles (soph) G - Hinrich (senior) G/F - Langford (soph) F - Collison (senior) F/C - Simien (soph) ... are all going in the first round in the next 3 years. We know from Arizona Gardener and Walton are gonna be there. Then probably Channing Frye and then I'll go out on a limb here and say Iggy and Adams (freshmen) are gonna be there in a few years too. These two teams are stocked with talent and it's useless ranking them #1 and #2. I saw just give them co-#1's until they play at Allen Fieldhouse on Jan 25th. That is gonna be one hell of a game. Not to mention UCLA coming into Lawrence as well on December 21st. So I don't think there's much doubt that KU has the best starting 5 going into the season, but if we're losing it's because of no depth, because it doesn't appear that there is any there. Oh well, I can't complain too much givin our starting lineup. Be prepared for a UNC return to glory. Should be interesting becuase in all likelyhood KU and UNC will meet in NY for the pre-season NIT final. Hopefully the first of many great teacher vs. mentor matchups between Roy and Matt Doherty. Here's some links for you to get your juices flowing... First edition of the Bracketology mock bracket http://espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology/index.html Click for video of Roy shakin his boo-tay at Late Night last night. Do they get anymore lovable than him?
And here's how we embarass our players on Late Night with Roy Williams, we make them dance while wearing the '88 championship uniforms. Thank god they don't still wear these! (click for video)
Ok, this is bad, the College Hockey thread has more posts than this one. Aren't you guys excited at all?
Not really. Will get excited about the college basketball season when the college football season is almost over. Just can't right now.
LOL... Here's your Jayhawk update: You know basketball season hasn't started yet when you see all the starting Jayhawks at a strip Club on a Friday night with Hinrich goin nuts. Goofy little shy Iowa boy he is not, dude was up on stage smacking one of the strippers asses! Hah, it was great.
Lucid, I'm with you. Our football team sucks, too. BTW, you are spot on about the freshmen for Arizona. I went to an open scrimmage the other day and Adams is going to be a star. Iggy is good with loads of potential. Will you be going to the UA-KU game? P.S. According to ESPN, Arizona has the #1 recruiting class for 2003 (up to now). P.P.S. Is that Padgett guy Kansas got related to Scott (?) from Kentucky?
Let's see... Yeah, I'm gonna goto that game, definately! Adams is going to be great, which is why so many KU fans were pissed when he chose Arizona over KU after it looked like we had him locked in. I haven't heard anything about the Padgett's being related. Our other recruit, Omar Wilkes is the son of the former NBA player though. And about the rankings... I've never put much value in those. Basically all they tell you is that if you are in the top-5 you are damn good, if you are in the top-15, you put together a solid class, etc... because if you goto another site they'll have the class rankings pretty different from the last one you looked at. They are pretty much based off the player rankings and you can goto one site and see a player ranked #12 in the country, and goto another site and that same player will be ranked #47. It's really hard to accurately predict these things. I'd love to go back and see who was ranked higher Kansas' Gooden, Hinrich, and Collison class or Duke's Williams, Boozer, and Dunleavy class. That would be really fun to compare now. I usually pay some attention to the class rankings, but the class coming in with 4 kids is ragarded as possibly the best class ever to come to KU. That tells me all I need to know. Them, on top of last years class, and on top of the seniors this year, Roy has it worked out so he basically gets arguably the #1 class when all's said and done, every other year, so I couldn't be happier. I sure as hell won't miss that Arizona game cause as I said in my previous post, it's gonna have possibly 10+ NBA players on that court. It's just amazing the talent level both these teams have. I can't think of a bigger non-conference game in the country over the past few years that even comes close to comparing to that KU/Arizona game. I just hope Arizona isn't really pissed about that ass-kicking we gave them last year at their home-court. *drueling*
Well... the exhibition season has started. Anything interesting so far? Went to KU's game the other night. Adonis Jordan (Roy's first recruit at KU) was on the other team, the EA all-stars, and I think he got the biggest ovation I have ever heard an opponent get. It was great seeing him play and I cheered every time he scored. We beat them 111-94 with a good showing from our bench which most KU fans are worried about. I feel a little bit better now and it also appears Roy is sticking with his high-powered run 'n gun offense like last year. And I'm happy cause Mizzou had to take these guys to overtime to beat them by two so hopefully we'll be able to sweep their sorry asses again this year.
I hope you're right, but I'll remain pessimistic until I see them play. Though I might go see them play an early round at MSG.
Florida squeaked by the "Midwest All-Stars" by a score of 113-63 on Monday night. Freshman Anthony Roberson got the start at the point, and responded by scoring 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. David Lee also scored 22, while Danish freshman Christian Drejer scored 13 and added 7 assists. The Gators played the game without freshmen Rashid Al-Kaleem, Matt Walsh, and Mario Boggan, and without sophomore James White, who were all suspended for a violation of the university's student code of conduct. ...and the beloved DePaul Blue Demons dropped the EA Sports Midwest All-Stars 79-70 behind 19 points a piece from Sam Hoskin and Delonte Holland.
All you need to know about College Basketball this year Xavier University 3,500 students 2 All-Americans 1st Final Four oh, and F%&K UC
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Xavier. I'm sure it had alot to do with seeing the expression on Bob Huggins' face when he lost to them. Plus they've given us Skip Prosser. Now how about giving us David West, too?
http://www.courier-journal.com/cjsports/bkb/comment/index.html I'm telling you now- UofL will finish the year ranked in the top 15. Unlike last year, when UofL had no real inside presence (only Ellis Myles, who is a great rebounder, but still needs to develop his offensive game. Brandon Bender didn't count.), UofL has incoming Juco Kendall Dartez as well as McDonalds all-amercian Marvin Stone, who looks like a completely different player now that Pitino has gotten his hands on him. Unfortunately, Stone won't be elligible til mid-december. Oh yeah, and then there's Reece Gaines. Not only is he an offensive juggernaut, but he is also a defensive bad-ass. Best 2 guard in the country. Seriously. Here's an account of the Card's win over EA Sports on wednesday. http://www.courier-journal.com/cjsports/news2002/11/07/sp110702s309344.htm Oh yeah, fuck the UC bearcats.
I would have to change the word "given" in your sentence to "offloaded". As a Xavier grad - please, please accept my deepest apologies. Best of luck - you'll need it with Skip.
I hate to burst any bubbles but Carolina is not going to return to glory. Going 14-14 would be a miracle season at this point.
Prediction time, let's hear them guys. Post now or forever hold your peace because the season will be starting soon. Final Four -------- Kansas Arizona Alabama Florida - I picked Florida and 'bama cause it's just gay to pick the top four for the Final Four. Gotta have some balls. And I picked Arizona and Kansas because, well... it is Arizona and Kansas. Champion --------- Kansas - Best starting 5 in the country and I think the lack of a deep bench won't kill them. Top 10 ------- Kansas Arizona Florida Alabama Oklahoma Michigan State Oregon Kentucky Cincy Indiana Big XII winner - Kansas Little Eleven winner - Michigan State Pac-10 champ - Oregon SEC champ - Florida ACC champ - Maryland Big East champ - Pittsburgh (I'm talkin regular seasons, not tournaments) There ya have it, feel free to rip me if you wish.
Fab Five talk anyone? This is a self-impossed punishment, but can the NCAA make their own, even worse penalty? Let's see here. If Michigan removes the banners, can't play in one post-season (like this year they were going anywhere) and whatever else...like change their record, wins now losses, wouldn't that mean that Ohio State now can retroactively make the Final Four when they lost to the UofM in the Ellite Eight? Jim O'Brien...put up the banner! Oh yea, metroflip, thanks for the coach. Maryland, you're welcome. OH - IO
