Have people been talking about this and I just missed the thread?? the records that can be at least tied tonight: 1) All Time Rapids Scoring Record (Bravo 100 pts.); Hendo is at 99 2) All Time MLS Longest Home Undefeated Record (15); Rapids are at 14 regular season! Would be great for Hendo to get it tonight, rather than on the road next game....
Would be nice for Henderson to get the record... But realizing just how many of those "home undefeated" games were meager ties where we played poorly and didn't put in a winning effort or strategy - I know the Rapids want us to be thrilled at this streak, but I look at the ties and shake my head at how often we've thrown away the two points.
Yes, I've seen this brought up and discussed elsewhere. The impression that i get is that people around here could care less about records like this when what we really need is a straight-up win at home. If Hendo scores/assists tonight, great. But that achievement will be vastly overshadowed if the Rapids lose or draw. With five Rapids seasons under his belt, 100 points is solid production, but is only noteworthy because of the fact that the Rapids have never had a ridiculously potent attacking threat (40+ points in a single season) nor an attacking player that has stuck around for more than 3-4 years. Not to take anything away from Hendo doing this for the Rapids, but Spenny should quickly eclipse him this season -- he's already up to 84 points. As for the home undefeated streak, well, it's a statistical record, and prior draws may have stunk (as would one tonight) but the longer it goes, the stronger message it definitely sends to opponents. Don't think for a second that visiting teams aren't already aware that it's very difficult to come away from Invesco with 3 points. Especially the Revolution.
9-0-5, going back to a win May 27th last year. The last loss was 5/17/03, 0-2 vs MetroStars. What I don't get is why MLS decided not toconsider playoff games for the streak. With the KC tie, that brings it to 9-0-6 or 15 straight games. If I were the Rapids, I'd say screw it, we've got the tie at 15 games now, and we're going for the record tonight. Also, if they win (or tie) tonight, they'll clinch being able to say they haven't lost a game at home in more than a year. As for Henderson, I think the record is important and does count. The MLS is not really known for longevity, and certainly the Rapids aren't, so I think it's impressive, especially given that Hendo's played a supporting midfield position recently and isn't just a pure striker. He doesn't even get the penalty kicks, which are like free points, so I definitely feel he's earned it. Cheers, BilFish
The reason that all-time records and statistics never include playoffs, internationals or exhibitions is because it would create an imbalance between the teams/players that have played greater or fewer games based due to post-season involvement.
People in the US love numbers, which at times can be interesting...take a look at the following from the Crapds's webpage: Rapids 3rd Among Colorado’s Major League Teams' Longest Home Undefeated Streaks http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/newsdetails.asp?ID=317 With or without bad ties, I would love for this team to go 24 games and more than two years undefeated like the Broncos did...
9-0-5 over 14 games isn't too shabby at all. The way people were whining earlier in the thread, you'd think the Rapids were 4-0-10 or something during the streak (too many ties, too many ties!!!) Taking 32 points of a possible 42 at home is great.
The whining is over the fact that of the past 6 home games (7 including playoffs), 4 (5) of them were draws.
