That USA Today headline is, well, flat out wrong. (Maybe Beau can talk about it on the analysis of Bergin's site.)

Costa Rica and Mexico are not "on their way to Athens." They haven't clinched spots in the Olympics, as the headline implies. They've just made it to the crucial semifinal games, where the winners qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games.

Mexico and Costa Rica could still both lose to the teams from Group A, likely the US and Honduras.

I had to laugh about this snippet in the article on the Farfan twins.

They received an opportunity when two starting senior forwards asked Trojans coach Paul Avalos if they could be excused from Castle Park's South Bay League opener against Mar Vista in order to try out for the Super Bowl halftime show dance team.

Those musta been some real rugged forwards.

Is a "peace team" really a good idea for this event? I can see these poor kids being yelled at with anti-whatever slurs throughout the entire match by the good old boys in Texas.

It's just a hunch, but I don't think the good ol' boys spend much time at the Dallas Cup.

Hmm. Somehow the following link from the Youth team forum is working for me:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A13918-2004Feb4.html

But when I click on the link from Colin Grabow, I get the authentication problem. Maybe the various newspapers have realized bigsoccer authentication and started disabling it?? Nah, conspiracy theory galore. It's confusing.

Well, yes, clearly this is dangerous since we all know that everyone in Texas is racist.
