i'm getting rather irritated with the north jersey herald's site... not really the url problem (although, i'm sure that helps), but they are bumping old stories so that they keep popping up as new ones on google... a jan. 17th story just came up as being new from 6 minutes ago

at this point, only the galaxy have sold more season tickets for 2003

i'm hoping that means that columbus usually does most of theirs closer to the start of the season

I wonder if that is in response to all the hits they are getting from BigSoccer. If their webmaster is paying attention, he must notice that their soccer stories get a large number of hits referred by BigSoccer.

If I have the time later, I'll shoot them an E-mail asking what's up.

I think this is due to a few reasons:

    1) Columbus weather doesn't break until almost June, and even then I think it rained every Saturday in June last season.

    2) The novelty of the new stadium has worn off. And they still haven't figured out how to get people out of the parking lot in a quick fashion. Concession times are even worse.

    3) Despite having an acceptable record, barely, the product on the field isn't all that exciting. Crew constantly blow leads late in the game, play bunkerball when they go a goal up, no matter what time in the game it is. Maybe if Crew improved their home performances, that would pay dividends.

    "Bob Luder, K.C. Star
The team announced Wednesday that it has accounted for 4,431 season tickets sold, surpassing the franchise record of 4,115 set in 1996, the inaugural year of MLS."

This is pretty remarkable when you think about it.

The season doesn't start for 6 more weeks.
The stadium they play in is HUGE and there is very little reason to buy tickets in advance.
KC has always been towards the bottom of attendance.
The team will be 3 years removed from its MLS Cup victory.

Lamar and the front office deserve a lot of credit for setting the goal and actually going out and getting it done.

Beside the Crusader volunteer program - I am not sure what else is at work here - but its nice to see.

Wonder whats going on in Denver.

The Crew Rep that called me said they were really close to 8K seaon tickets sold and their goal was 10K by opening day. He also told me that the number for last year was 7895.

Although he's clearly on the Adu hype bandwage. You don't get jet lag flying north-south for two hours.

    1. Understandable, all that can really be done is possibly up the marketing of the team and maybe institute a couple of "beer and brat" days or something along those lines to draw in more people earlier in the season. I know I found it a lot easier to get out to Fire games once I had made it out there once earlier in the season.
    2. Concessions do suck, I'd much rather just tailgate in the parking lot with my Smokey Joe and kick a ball around and not be hungry during the game. Unless Columbus (and I mean the City, not the team) opens up the road into the grounds, there isn't much that can be done to get people out faster.
    3. Can't suggest anything more for this one.

    : speak of the devil

Wait, he's not dead? :) I'd go with Pulitzer. Anybody seen Newsies ? It's a Disney musical where Joe Pulitzer, well, hates kids in general.
