yes... it was done by michelle kaufmann, who does a regular sunday soccer column for the miami herald... i'm not sure if other papers pick up her articles, normally... but at the least, it's nice to see

Revolution management has contradicted one of the statements made in the 'Argentina' article. Llamosa's Colombia deal fell through, and the Revs are still looking to get him back.

My hope is that Adu becomes U.S. soccer's Mike Jordan. I personally don't care for MJ at all (no need to discuss this people), but he did wonders for the NBA in terms of attendance increases and national media acception. TV ratings and major endorsement deals also came his way (and thus, the NBA's way). If Adu can do that on even a small scale, it will greatly help him, MLS, and US soccer.

Jordan, Bird, and Magic Johnson are the three men who helped make the NBA as big as it is now (I know there were other smaller players, but those three superstars helped get the billion dollar TV deals, etc. etc.). Hopefully Adu will be joined by two other young Americans to do something similar for MLS in the near future.

And most important, I hope United get him in 2004!

'We have never done this before, but Freddy is the first American soccer player we have ever seen with the potential as a pro in Europe,'' Inter Milan youth director Piero Ausilio told The Washington Post.

Ugh. I guess an American has to be the next Pele to be noticed in Italy.

The only thing is that Adu will go to Europe shortly after he's considered a great player (assuming everything works out). There's no way he stays in MLS if he's worth tens of millions.

Exactly. That's the problem with being the Michael Jordan of American soccer. It's a guaranty they'll soon end up in Europe...barring some series of extenutating circumstances. The NBA or any other major American sport doesn't have this problem.

We should enjoy Donovan, Beasley and Mathis while we got 'em. They'll be gone sometime down the road too.

Hopefully Adu will sign with MLS to begin with and bless us with his presence for a 1/2 dozen years or so (age 14-20?) before leading Inter to the Champions Cup sometime around 2010.
