With heart in mouth I braved the wee hours of the morning to watch this game and while expecting the worst actually got to watch a very good game. Juve showed the grit and determination that has long been the trademark fo the side. Davids and Nedved were great, Camoranesi was cutting on his side. Zalayeta did well up forward (though he is to slow which hurts his game). the pillars in defense of Montero and Ferrara again strong. Undermanned but not outplayed, Juve took the game to the home side. Manchester scored the lucky first while the dust was still settling and the Juve side had not yet adjusted. The handball was there... but then there was a more obvious penalty against Chimenti not given. Tacchinardi got a yellow for nothing (dissent about the handball incident, thought if it was, it was a short sweet comment, since we didn't even know until after halftime he was booked) He misses the next game. Not sure who should have been sent off but Keane was given a fair bit of grace, he was finally booked after his third nasty foul on Davids. All this from a one eyed Juve fan.... I never thought we would win but we did play better and if we had a half decent forward could have taken this mob of pretty boys. Trezegeut was horrendous (not the flu me thinks... he has not been flash since returning from injury this year) We better be healthy by next week. I would like to think Buffon might not have let either of those goals in....If they had not scored early I think they would have struggled to score at all. Later goal was more due to the forward pressure we were applying. Anyway... Next week the rematch... I would like to see what Man U would do with with a side as depleted as ours was.... Lets hope we left them a little gift ...
Welcome back, Zebra - haven't seen you in a while. Thanks for the report. We didn't get to see the game in the states (though maybe some bars in big cities were showing it via close-circuit), so it's nice to hear the perspective of a fellow Juve fan. Let's all hope for the best next week!
As much as I hate Juve, i got up and watched this one live. Juve deserved a draw, I actually felt a bit sorry for em. Totally depleted, yet at worst held their own in play. Trez looked about 10%, definitely something wrong with him. Definite penalty for handball wasnt called. And may sound harsh, but if Buffon was in goal, I doubt Brown would have scored when he did. Juve "did" conceed a penalty, but the ref played the advantage when scholes (I think) ran onto it and hit the upright of an open goal. Still dunno how a guy of that quality (any quality really) missed like that. On that performance, Id be confident next week in Turin, with a multitude of players back.
