John Brandt, president and general manager of the Menace, said last week the list of potential sites will be narrowed within the next 60 days.

Well at least he didn't say "60-90 days". ;)

Of seven communities mentioned as the club's possible home, only West Des Moines has continued negotiations, City Manager Jeff Pomeranz said.

That news should get SnakeEyes off that ledge he was standing on in fear the Menace might choose Altoona!!!

As always, I'm not holding my breath on any stadium news but remain hopefull.

LOL. I'm not holding my breath either. I feel like a Metroscum fan.

I just heard from a source that Cownie Soccer Park owned by the City of Des Moines is being looked at as well. Drake plays their games in a new stadium there and I don't know if the Menace would add onto it to make it a larger capacity venue or if two would be located there.
It was recently announced that Cownie successfully bid for and will take over the State High School soccer play-offs that had been a fixture in Muscatine for many years and promised improvements in order to get it. I doubt that this is what they meant, but if they could hold the HS finals in a large stadium setting that would be pretty cool for the kids.

I know someone will share their thoughts ;)

Hmmm... your information contains a mistake. What you meant to say is they are looking at some soccer park in WEST DES MOINES!

Now that I have gotten that out of my system let me say that Cownie is better than Altoona, and it's also better than the Drake ghetto, err neighborhood. It is a nice complex. Also, with the state tournaments and Drake now at the complex, it is more attractive. When the youth tournament was here last year the Menace got a decent boost despite being nowhere near the complex. Despite all that, you know what I want/prefer so I won't repeat myself :)

Didn't they just have the region tournament there? Or are they to have it this year? I've read some really nice things about the complex. When I was out for Thanksgiving, I made my sister drive by. It looked nice despite it being november.

Cownie holds a lot of local club, state and regional tournaments. Many of the suburban soccer clubs hold their invitational tournaments there instead of at their usual club fields, so the soccer moms all know where it is. We have our Men's League and Over-The-Hill League out there and pay a little extra in player fees to do so vs. playing at other sites and have to schedule our leagues around all the tournaments (the Just for Girls Tournament is now over two weekends(!), Chevy Cup, etc.) despite the fact they have 12 fields with a couple more planned including turf.
This is just another possibility for the Menace I heard about from someone that knows a little sumpin' sumpin', but I'm sure the western suburbs are still preferred.
None of this should be in discussion, they should have been in Urbandale, who really wanted the project, but Krause screwed it up in his own special way...
As long as adult beverages are incorporated in the new stadium plans it's all good :)
