Reminder that this Wednesday the Dynamo are playing a pre-season exhibition game in San Jose against the Earthquakes.

Game time is 8:30 pm CST. I don't expect that there will be any live media coverage but we should have some stuff to discuss after the fact.

There is another game on Saturday in San Francisco.

    What's your lineup prediction?

Since this will be the first Dynamo game we've had in a while, I'll sticky it.

Re: 2/13/08:[Exhibition] Dynamo v. SJ Earthquakes

Well, here are the people who are out for the game:

    Waibel
    Mullan
    Davis?

So I expect Dom to run out our XI to start and switch it entirely for the 2nd half. Can't comment about the rookies, but here's the group to start

    -----Onstad----
    Mulrooney-----Robinson----Boswell----Wolverine
    --------------Clark----------
    Holden/Ashe?---------------------Davis?/Holden
    -------------DeRo-------
    --------Ching------Wondo

If Davis is ok, then no questions. The ST part is tricky. If Mullan wasn't injured, we could push DeRo up and Holden to the CAM. But, that's life.

Also, I give Boswell the nod over Ianni as Boswell needs time to get used to the defense while Ianni doesn't...at least not in the same way. Wondo gets the nod at ST as he needs to prove himself and this is a great chance for him to do so.

Of course, this has some possibilities too...

    ---Onstad---
    Ianni--Robinson---Boswell---Wolverine
    -------Clark-----
    Mulrooney---------Davis
    -------Holden------
    --DeRo--
    ---------Ching-----

    But I doubt it.

Why not put a pure B-team (+ new Dynamo signings) out there? No need for our regular starters to get hurt against SJ. Most of them have had action in Nat Team duties.

Sure, but not together. They need to get back on the field together and get the ball rolling and meshing and whatever. Half time, throw out the kids and see what they have.

Personally, as far as the kids go, I want to hear about how Wondo2 does. His brother has been impressive (at least in the Reserves...and against Pachuca :D) and should be interesting to see how he grows on the backline. He's got a shadow to work out of.

IIRC, we drafted...5 people total? 2 ST, 3 MF? Is that right?

Well, based on what Dom has done in the past, it's possible he won't field a "starting XI" together, he may mix the veterans with the rookies. Last preseason in the first one or two matches I think he did the "mix and match" thing. But, IF he were going to start the best XI, I would go with the lineup that EN has posted.

As for your question about draftees, there were 6 guys drafted, but one of them stayed in school. So they have 5 guys, 4 midfielders (Cameron, Alcarez, Barlow, Hall) and 1 forward (Georgeff).

So, the following guys are the ones that we know about who are in camp and should be healthy enough to play (I put Mulrooney at Defender just because there are so many Midfielders...)

    GK: Onstad, Caig, Pope, Waller
D: Robinson, Ianni, Boswell, Barrett, S Wondo, Chabala, Mulrooney, Ebert
M: DeRosario, Clark, Holden, Ashe, Hayden, Hatzke, Ustruck, Cameron, Alcarez, Barlow, Hall
    F: Ching, Wondo, Georgeff

Unavailable (my assumption, they could be ready to play by Wed): Waibel, Mullan, Davis

Obviously, some of the midfielders could play defender or forward.

    Thank for clarifying that.

Neither Pope nor Waller have been signed, right? Wonder how much playing time we'll see from them in these two games (or the PPC next week).

The whole point of the game is to get the A team warmed up since it's the preseason. The B team is for the USOC & reserve games.

Yeah, the team will almost certainly only sign one of the keepers, and he will be on a dev contract. So Dom needs to figure out how he is going to pick one of them - I guess if he thinks seeing them on the field against San Jose can help with the decision, then they might play. But as far as getting experience, Jordan James (and Martin Hutton the year before last) never saw the playing field in anything but a Reserve match, and very few of those.

Why not? Kinnear moved to Fremont, California from Scotland in 1970 when he was three years old. The original Earthquakes of the NASL started play in 1974 when he was 7 years old. They played in the Bay Area until 1984 when Kinnear would have been 17.

Don't think so. But even if there were radio, it would SUCK, as usual. Who's with me on starting a petition to replace Steve Mark?? With him, it's not play-by-play, it's more like play-every-three plays. I have never heard a more horrible radio broadcast in my life.

Anything would be better what we currently have! They should hire a young, energetic broadcaster who will be excited about this opportunity. Right now I'd rather listen to the Spanish broadcast and I don't even speak Spanish! :D

Some nice quotes from Bernardo's blog. Sounds like DeRo is set to be CAM until Stuart "beats him" out of that spot :D

    Sounds like a challenge!!

Sounds like the classic "Age v Beauty" fight. Who's got money on who?

Maybe we could get somebody with a Wi-FI laptop to commentate on the game and provide an internet stream.

Or just bring your voice recorder MP3 player and give a play-by-play with analysis and upload it on to here.
