Oh, have to add, there was ton of static on the cell call that this info is from so I'm not quite sure if LA got a second round pick or NE. Maybe somebody can confirm and I'll try the get a better connection and confirm.

WOW..I'd defintely give up a 2nd-round draft pick for Reis, and when you get rid of Chacon it makes it a no-brainer. My only question: Did Chacon reduce his salary to prolong his career in sunny LA? I imagine he'd have to for LA to be cap-compliant.

Don't know if Chacon needed to take a cut or not.
I think this is a great deal for NE. Reis is a great addition (and he is cheap). It seems to make sense that NE gave Chacon and 2nd round for LA (not the other way around). maybe La didn't want to go just for chacon alone and the 2nd round pick was a little perk.

Seem like NE is clearing cap room???!

$10 Reis goes to the Rapids in a package for the allocation.

$15 that doesn't happen. The Revs have been hunting Reis for some time.

Yeah, but Reis can't be too excited about going to a team that already has Adin Brown. He'll get less time than he got in LA.

If Serna goes for an allocation, the Revs should be able to acquire Joe-Max and still have some cap space left over. Wouldn't that be nice.

I'd still like to draft a midfielder (1st round), a back and a backup forward.

I don't know where LA is with regards to the cap, but APC's contract had him making $170K.

First, why is Reis' excitement level an issue? Is he a professional, or isn't he?

More importantly, Brown is frail, and might have some USNT call-ups, so Reis will definitely get his shot, especially with the Revs' expanded schedule this season.

I was thinking the same thing. Reis is a good goalie, good enough to step right in if Adin gets injured. Wasn't there some friction in LA because they both wanted to start? I'm also not thrilled to be giving up a second rounder, which I think would have gotten us some good value in this draft. It would be annoying to find out that we needed to put up the 2nd rounder to get LA to grab APC. Couldn't we have just cut him a few weeks ago?

    Three things:
    1) I'm told Reis is psyched to change venues, and he likes the idea of coming to NE.
    2) Why would you waive a guy for nothing, when you can drop his salary AND get a good player in a position you desperately need to fill for short money?
    3) IMO this draft is being overhyped. There are some good players available, but only about four that are going to make a real impact this year. When you can pick up quality vets who will play right away it makes more sense than hanging on to picks that bring in development projects. MLS is still a terrible place to be a developmental player. These kids just don't see enough of the field.

I was not too impressed with his play in the '02 Open Cup.

    Question

Now that he may be ours, do you pronounce his name Rice or Reese?

    Re: Question

Should be interesting to see APC in a free-flowing, attacking 3-5-2 with Ruiz on top, Cobi on the flanks with Henderson and Bo in support. This just may be the team Chacon might excell in and could well return to his 2001 form. I'd be shocked if LA doesn't repeat; APC can only add to their attacking style IMO.

... and we're not giving up too much in sending along the #19 pick either considering we have the #22nd.

Well at least we'll know that we can take the ball away from him!

I doubt he'll be as effective as Cien'.

I like this deal,,,we get arguably the best backup in the league for the most over payed bust and a draft pick. I can live with this.

Sounds like a decent trade for both clubs. I'm curious what Reis gets out of this. Seems to me he'd be better off in LA competing for playign time with El Gato than in New England competing with Adin Brown.

    Re: Re: Re: Question

You guys have short memories concerning Chacon. The Fusion played wide, gave their creative players needed space, and APC played as a withdrawn forward or midfielder and poached or passed off. Heck if Ruiz or Jones miss a shot, Chacon is liable to put back the rebound. He's not a classic 10 as Cien, but he'll add another dimention to the Gals. There's a huge difference between the '01 Fusion and last year's Revs style of play. In LA Chacon could well return to form. Remember, APC was once a MLS MVP, is in good shape and really not any older than Nowak or Preki when they excelled. I think the trade helped both clubs.

I think the LA will be also be happy to send Reis elsewhere. I gather that having two such similar keepers was a source of friction. Nothing was ever settled because there was no basis on which to choose one or the other, except who was hot.

As for Pineda Chacon, good luck and thanks for very little.

Reese....Your lucky to get him, if you keep him.
Chance that Brown is not staying there long?
