Let's get the talk about next weekend in a new thread: Saturday: San Jose at Kansas City - 15,000 Colorado at Los Angeles - 27,000 MetroStars at D.C. United - 22,000 Sunday: New England at Columbus (at 5 pm) - 14,000 Columbus fans, are there any Halloween promotions going on as a part of pre or post game activities? Average of 19,500, more than double this weekend.
wow. those are some pretty optimistic predictions considering this weeks final numbers. Cbus will get 14,500 KC will get 12,000 DC will get 15,000 LA will get 17,000 These are my high estimates. Doesn't matter anyway I am never right in these prediction threads.
I figure the World Series should be over, DC and LA have drawn well all season, and KC and Columbus tend not to suck as much as NE, SJ or Colorado.
The city of Columbus does not do begger's night on Halloween, so that won't be a factor. Season ticket holders are allowed to use unused tickets on this game so a crowd of 18,000+ and possibly 20,000 if there is nice weather.
LA-25,000 DC-14,000 KC-9,000 CLB- 21,000 Avg: 17,250 Still guessing high, even though last weekend I was several thousand over on every game.
Crew game should be relatively high. APparently they don't T&T on actual Halloween night. Plus, they won't have to compete with Ohio State football, which really would have had them in a hard place.
Basically what I expected (somewhere between 8-12k). It was legitimately 10k in the stadium. I'm be surprised, however, if that match that next week. Friday night just isn't a good night for games. Arrowhead is rented out for a Division II college football game next Saturday.
it has nothing to do with promoting. people knew there was a game and didn't come anyways. why don't you tell us all why you didn't make the 30 minute drive from woodland hills?
For the galaxy, even though it was one of our smaller crowds... It was the best atmosphere inside the stadium in years... Was tremendous...
indeed. the loudest it's ever been. those thundersticks are a blessing for people who are too lazy to clap. aaaand, they seem to preoccupy most of the people who normally blow horns. wonder if they'd consider handing them out at every game...
Good to see an increased turnout this weekend. Most of the crowds were still below the regular season average though which is dissapointing for the play-offs as a spectacle. MLS needs to focus on ways of getting above average crowds for the play-off series. The two-leg format is great though, I am a big fan of that. I think Wheelock's article on Fox with 6/12 and division winners straight into the conference final looks to be about right. I hope MLS adopts it for next season.
Not too bad, relatively. Looks like MLS would have had better results counting the second legs only (one-offs). I'm not advocating changing systems and of course there is the SSS bias. I wonder if there had been an off week and the games this weekend were sold as "winner advances" if the #'s would have been even better - doubt it.
Hopefully people will eventually catch on to the spirit of the game. 'We', meaning Americans, obviously don't get it yet. Perhaps some day we wont need a contrived chorous of elongated horns or self inflating plastic sticks to create a little buzz in our stadiums. Imagine making noise spontaneously, cause we love soccer. Someday perhaps.. who knows..
I dont belive that number for one second. Something is not right. We had something like 19,600 for our final regular season game against the metrotards which we won 3-2, and last night easily matched that. Ive been to RFK enough in 9 years to pretty much have a handle on visually "guessing" our attendance, and im usually no more than 1000 off, usually short. I gussed the final regular season game at 17-18K. I guessed last nite at 19, and they publish 15. There were far more than 15K bodies in seats at RFK last nite, I would put my life on it. I saw it, and I have photos of it as well. Annoucing 15K is a JOKE. Maybe they dont want to make most of the rest of MLS look bad? WHo knows. I really would like to know exactly how this figure was arrived at tho. That aside, last nite was the single greatest crowd RFK has seen since 99. IT was just like back in the glory years, and had the look and feel and sound of a true soccer match. The passion and noise of RFK last nite was simply incredible, and would make ANY soccer fan proud. Replete with a card coreograpy.
