June is not hot in LA.. Mostly overcast, especially in the AM and mild afternoons. We call it "June Gloom". It would be especially mild in Carson that time of year. On rare occassions it is hot in June but very rare. Another thing to know about weather in LA. The LA area is huge. It can be 65 on the west side near the beach while it's 99 in the Valley. It could be 70 in Carson and 90 in Pasadena. It can vary greatly all over the basin. But June is generally mild all over the basin. August and September are generally the hottest months. I added this explanation of a graph from a site with LA monthly temps to put the issue to rest : "Note that in June the temperatures really take a dip. All these curves are based on a typical meteorological year which is hour by hour values of air temp, solar radiation, wind levels and humidity based on 10 years of real weather data but the "tmy" isn't average weather data. It is typical weather generated using a complex algorithm and perhaps manually to some extent. That dip in temperatures in June is the famous June gloom. You can see for yourself exactly the effect that June gloom has with our plots."
Showcase the Home Depot Center as much as you can in games where the opposition isn't strong in LA. Also it is easier for players traveling to come to LA in June as pretty much all of the Euro based players are finished with their seasons, so having a qualifier in LA isn't as big as it would be during the Euro season.
Would it be asking too much to hope that the newly renovated Soldier Field could maybe possibly host a WCQ in the city that is the home of US Soccer?
And furthermore! Average June Temp (high and low): New York City--- 81/63 Columbus, Ohio--- 80/58 Los Angeles--- 76/59 I couldn't find Foxboro but I'm sure it's worse there too.. Here's Boston: 77/59 (close but it has a million times the chance of rain in June that LA has. )
I'd be surprised if it wasn't Carson or Columbus. We aren't really talking about a game that would sell a lot of tickets.
Maybe Houston? Their feild has a roof and A/C. Houston during the summers is complete ass but if you're indoors it does matter.
seems to me this would be a good opportunity to host a game at a cite that otherwise wouldnt, because of demopgraphics, etc. An MLS doubleheader would help this game tremendously too, because I doubt it is enough to draw on its own. I would say los angeles would be the best bet, but I think chicagoans would get out in really good numbers. Unless it is at night, DC is too hot in june.
World Cup qualifiers are for qualifing, not promoting anything. Promote the game all you want with friendlies, but we need to win our qualies. If that means we play every match in Columbus, then so be it.
I think we'll do one of two things... 1) Since we can't go places like LA, DC, Miami and others with many WCQ opponents or it winds up being a home game for the opponent, we'll go one of those places with this game. OR 2) Since this is a low level opponent, we'll take this opportunity to go somewhere we don't normally get to go like Birmingham or Memphis or something.
Not during the MLS season. The attendence bump from having a doubleheader with a qualifier is too good for the USSF and MLS to pass up. Unless of course, some place like Philly comes along with an obscene bid. I've noticed that Foxboro gets more than its share of competitive matches (4 WCQs out of 10 home matches in 2000/2001, Gold Cup, etc.). So it wouldn't surprise me to see the match there. It's a shame Frisco won't be ready by then, because Dallas would be a perfect place for a night game and you could showcase the new new stadium. Sachin
I kinda like that idea. Perhaps a city that hasn't seen the nats in a million years or never. When the Women't Nats went to SLC it did very well for tickets as they had never had a national team match before. Just a thought for the first matches.
Isn't this a Wednesday/Saturday series?? If so I have a hard time seeing it not on the East Coast just for travel ease.
I guess that would depend on which leg is first. If the first leg was in the USA and the nats trained at the HDC, as an example, then the other team would have to travel all the way to the west coast for the first match and then all the way back home for the 2nd while the US nats would have only the one long trip as the return home wouldn't matter. I'm sure there are other scenarios.
This game should be a doubleheader with a MLS game. Since we are playing Grenada or Guyana, we could really play the game anywhere. I would like to see a USMNT game at Soldier Field. I am going to guess that the game will probably be at the Home Depot Center or Gillette Stadium though.
No, our home leg is June 12 or 13, while the away league is June 19 or 20, the following weekend. You're point about playing on the east coast and travel is a good one, however.
Well, we still have the Cotton Bowl. Of course, it's probably too small and the field's only 75 yards wide. Plus, we've had a USMNT game here pretty recently. I'm sure someone else has been waiting more than 9 years...
LA or Chicago. I'd prefer LA, but that's mostly me being selfish. Neither city will see another qualifier for the rest of the cycle, I suspect.
