1983 NASL Seattle Sounders Remembered

    That I was NOT going to support the club under the new ownership which eventually killed it off.

    Or at least that I wouldn't renew my season tickets.

    I hated to do it. But the events of the offseason drove me to make my disappointment known.

    I did go to the home opener vs. Team America, and probably about 8 of the home matches. It was sad to see the club redesigned so poorly.

    Only a year earlier I had spent college tuition money to fly to San Diego for Soccer Bowl '82 against the Cosmos.

    Now many of the players were gone, the club changed logos and colors, went with a hysterical slogan (Red and White, Black and Blue, Whooaa the Sounders coming at you...") and pretty much did everything they could to alienate the die-hard fans.

    So I wrote Best the letter. His response was fine.

    The team died at the end of the 1983 season. Or was it at the BEGINING of the 1983 season? ;)

    PS: I HAVE Sounders Season Tickets again. I re-upped in 2003.
