Fire lose to U-17! 2-1 http://www.chicago-fire.com/pressbox/pressrelease/releasetext.asp?prID=1196 Fire gets schooled by a 13 year old (Adu). Scoring Summary CHI: Damani Ralph (Justin Mapp, Kelly Gray) 22’ U17: Freddy Adu (Cory Ashe) 27’; Freddy Adu (-PK-) 69’ Fire Lineup: GK-Zach Thornton (Henry Ring 31), D-Kelly Gray, D-Jim Curtin (Heath Pearce 46), D-C.J. Brown (Chad Dombrowski 46), M-Justin Mapp (Ryan Futagaki 46), M-Jesse Marsch (Ryan Mack 46), M-Logan Pause, M-Craig Capano, M-Evan Whitfield (Amos Magee 46), Nate Jaqua (Derk Droze 46), Damani Ralph (Phil Swenda 31).
Well, it's notable that the 11 were primarily kids on trial...but still...AY! So now, who are Heath Pearce and Derk Droze?
By the second half most of the starters from last year and reserves were out (when Adu scored, nearly every position changed during the game - that's not easy to get used to mid-game), so there is no reason to get upset. Only 4 guys played the whole game for the Fire. Fire Lineup: GK-Zach Thornton (Henry Ring 31), D-Kelly Gray, D-Jim Curtin (Heath Pearce 46), D-C.J. Brown (Chad Dombrowski 46), M-Justin Mapp (Ryan Futagaki 46), M-Jesse Marsch (Ryan Mack 46), M-Logan Pause, M-Craig Capano, M-Evan Whitfield (Amos Magee 46), Nate Jaqua (Derk Droze 46), Damani Ralph (Phil Swenda 31). It's a good first guess at who will be playing where this year: Carlos as the third defender, moving Gray up to mid. (Especially after helping the US with a goal and assist - Hopefully DMB is okay) Amos already has some Fire goals so I hope he can earn a spot on the roster
Adu's first goal was in minute 27, when the older Fire players were in. How several of you can look dead on at the facts and then make claims otherwise is simply amazing. Congrats.
ok it's true that it was just a scrimmage but I think it's a testatment as to how good this kid really is. He scored his 1st goal against players who are starters or at least will contend for starting positions. You can't tell me they weren't aware that this kid is only 13 or 14 & weren't givin a lil extra not wanting to get beat by him.
While not thrilled about the result, I'm not overly concerned, and I do see the humor. Big Deal. If this kid is even 1/3 as good as the rumor-mongers make him out to be, Some of the second half subs will some day tell their kids, "I played against Freddy once." Good for Freddy, and the Fire better have learned from this one.
Wow, I'm sure the Fire walked into this game thinking, "Lets beat the crap out of some U-17s." Give me a break. Who really cares, it's just the preseason. Congrats to Freddy, looks like he might just live up to all the hype.
I find this thread pretty funny, actually: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=33410 The Burp fans, whose team lost a home match that meant something to a bunch of teenagers on the Seattle Sounders Select PDL team, are whacking off to the match reports from this one last night. That's rich. Otherwise.... Unless I learn that Zach left with an injury, I'm pretty indifferent.
With the U-17 goal during the run of play coming up their right side, and the Fire missing Beasley, Bocanegra and Perez on the defensive left, I'm not really that worried. Plus the whole preseason thing. I like that Ralph's goal came off of a Mapp cross. Later, COZ
It's not empty. Think before you write. And I'm not going to tell you what's in the case. Let's see if you can figure it out. And when you've finally done that, then take a stab at condescension.
Well, they did win the Open Cup in 1997. On Penalties. After a scoreless final. Against a bushed DC team. In Indianapolis. Barely. So give them their credit where it is due.
They played against KIDS Thank You. Our guys are supposed to be pros, no matter what age they are. Theres no way they should ahve lost. I just hope noone gets hurt this season because we'll be in a lot of trouble. We have no depth if anyone gets hurt.
Granted, we have some vets in camp now (most of whom were subbed out early) but in case you haven't noticed, we're mostly kids now too, señor.
Not to mention the Fire were missing: Rodrigo Faria Ante Razov Chris Armas Actually, those guys wouldn't have an impact on the game......
If this result is meaningful then how much more meaningful was the 1-0 whipping (goal Seth George) the FIRE gave the Nats in their last practice game b4 beating los ratoncitos verde in Columbus two years ago?
