Has the predicatable accusations of racism started in Dallas? I hope the Burn don't cowtow to these race hustlers. God, am I going to dislike Chivas USA
Let me try... Nicols backs Mathis worth... Fistfull Of Dollars. Edited... Bah, no good. Funky url syntax that this forums software doesn't interpret well.
I like the controversy in Dallas and all, but what would happen if the next coach were Hispanic. Would white reporters and white ex-coaches show up and rail against him saying that the new coach would only play Hispanic players, and would they also say that the Burn is forgetting about their white fanbase?
YOu mean like Wheelock and many here have suggested about Chivas? That it would be an example of MLS ignoring their white fanbase? I get tired of latino fans thinking only latino coaches have a clue about soccer, but this is one argument that I think can go both ways.
The difference is that this was the announcement of a European head coach, not the announcement of a team that intends to have a hispanic identity. (I'm okay with Chivas if they play by MLS rules, by the way) What irks me is the assumption that Clarke will eradicate any hispanic flair from the team because he is not hispanic.
No, the white reporters or coaches would not do that unless they want to get charged with a "hate" crime
Ok, not like Wheelock then, but more like Harkes before he left New England claiming that Clavijo was trying to make the team latino. The way I see it is that the assistant coach is an insider and probably has what he considers to be a reasonable basis for assessing the type of style that Clarke will want. His opinion is informed (well more informed than mine) although it's probably colored by his assumption that Clarke is going to play kick and rush. I absolutely agree that the latino media is jumping on the bandwagon without knowing a damn thing, but that really is similar to the Chivas reaction. I think, too, we're all going to have to get used to the sensationalism of the latino press as MLS becomes more popular with latinos. As far as I can tell, they hate all coaches...
Which part of the hate crime acts would they be charged under? The church arson part? Or the willful bodily injury part? Last time I checked, there was nothing in there about criticizing the coach because he preaches latin soccer...
I was being ficitious. Listen, I would love more support from the hispanic community for MLS. I almost am encouraged that a reporter would be so passionate about the Burn and league especially since the NE fan base has been nutered by the Krafts but to if white reporters had acted that way I am fairly sure that there would be letters to editors, boycotts of the Burn by La Raza etc.
To find the Clint Mathis article just go to http://www.dailyrecord.com/sport/ and find "Clint". Here's a weird quote from the article: Must mean something different over there
