Howard rise means this year's a keeperp - New York Daily News, Michael Lewis We're residing in state of bliss - Boston Globe, Bob Ryan (towards the bottom)
From the Globe "no one doubts the commitment of Robert and Jonathan Kraft" I think there are some folks over on the Revs board who would disagree.
"No one doubts the commitment of Robert and Jonathan Kraft, and now the day may not be too far off when the team can change the ink color from red to black. The Revolution are acknowledged to be one of the best-run franchises in Major League Soccer, if not the best." - Bob Ryan, The Boston Globe - 12/25/03 1) The committment and involvement is questioned on a daily basis. Although, hope springs eternal and the appointment of Craig Tornberg as GM is a step in the right direction. 2) Changing the ink from red to black? Look around the league and see what other teams are offering their fans & season ticket holders. Plenty of room for growth here as well. 3) Who acknowleges that the Rev's are the best run franchise? A show of hands? Anyone? Anyone? The silence speaks volumes. 4) The Rev's enjoy tremendous media coverage from the Golobe and the Herald and decent TV and radio coverage. We in Boston are very fortunate in this regard.
Now only if they can build their own SSS and be more accessible to fans of the game who can,t get to the Razor from Boston area.
You guys kill me. One of the most well known and respected sports columnists in the country, writes a front page story about the "major" sports in as established a market as Boston, and without blinking an eye includes a Major League Soccer team side-by-side with the Red Sox, Celtics, etc., and you find a way to bitch. Incredible.
Even if Bob Ryan speaks thus, it doesn't mean it's true. The Revs ARE NOT one of the best run franchises in the league, unless you count leveraging their status as the only "independent" owner in MLS into way too many USMNT games at the Razor as a positive. Remember, Bob Ryan thinks Yao Ming is the best player in the NBA (as anyone forced to watch Around the Horn knows).
Rickster, So what you are saying is that no matter how inaccurate an article is, we should just be grateful that any MLS team gets mentioned on the front page? Fine, I'm grateful that the Revs were on the front page. I'll be EVEN MORE grateful when journalists do a bit of research.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's great that Bob Ryan is writing about the Revs and MLS. But some of the statements in that article indicate that he's not as plugged-in to the MLS scene as he is to other Boston sports. It's awesome that the city's most recognizable sports columnist is writing positive stuff about the Revs, but I just had to laugh at that comment about no one doubting the Krafts' commitment.
