kewpie doll to whoever finds the article with gary payton shouting "what?" back to the guy in the upper deck at a recent basketball game sorry, just got a kick out of that mentioning
Imagine the uproar here if it was a hockey fan reading a comparable article and muttering 'Soccer? Are we that disreputable? I feel like crying.' In case you didn't read the article, he was talking about amateur, Greco-Roman style wrestling - not Smackdown.
the mercury news guy, hernandez, said that an announcement on the quakes stadium deal will be given today
So Rochester is building a brand new stadium, all for their lonesome, so they can compete in the big leagues, just so they can put in their own patch of artificial grass. Lovely.
per the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram article... is the delay a bad sign? are we going to be pressing like we did for the fire this past offseason or what?
Someone should forward that USA today article. It's the best thing I've seen written on the subject in some time. 'Resodding' does not equal 'bad'. It's healthy. 75 percent of grass turf systems fail cause they were implemented wrong. You can just toss grass seed and dirt on top of the base used for the old artificial turf (or worse, the turf itself) and expect it to grow and be healthy. Also, the reference to Astroturf going out of style after 3 years is dead on. Sure, this new stuff is great, and it may take longer to go out of style (maybe even 10 years), but it will. There's a reason grass as a playing surface has lasted as long as it has. They do it right in Foxboro. Emulate them. It's not about how pretty it looks, it's about keeping it safe and dependable. I sure hope Mr. DuRoss doesn't go promising national team games and big international friendlies to the city and the fans with his ToupeeTurf stadium, should he decide to do that.
Eff 'em. They deserve to go what we went through, and sentencing them to a year or two with my relatives up in Southlake sounds absolutely wonderful to me.
No more turf damnit! sure they can say it looks and acts relatively close to the real thing, but it's not! Hopeflly Rochester comes to their senses, watching games played at Naperville and old Giants Stadium with the turf has not been sucha pleasant experience.
Re: Re: Re: 12/18/02: Donovan, Arena and Rochester Well, you open up your e-mail program, and click on "compose". Then you type in the address, write up your message, thank him politely, and hit send.
Naperville would have been better if it was wider than a bowling alley, and on tv it'll be a little more palatable this season because the camera position will be higher. All in all, at least we won't have to play the whole season there, it looks.
Re: Re: Re: Re: 12/18/02: Donovan, Arena and Rochester lol he meant his address wasn't listed in the article (i looked as well) anyone know if that is the leno guy?
McBride Sticking Around - Columbus Dispatch Resident voice Their Concerns - WHEC TV, NY looking for more articles... i think there should be... it's been an interesting past few days great offseason stuff... tons of hysteria (some helped by yours truly ... ok, maybe a lot ) -great players signing with the league -prospects leaving early (college, HS) for mls -national coach signed for another four years -tons of information coming out on a new sss in the northeast -pictures and video being leaked for victoria street -tons of national team games coming up this year and that doesn't even touch everything
This is too funny....the whole article had me laughing On another note can any one ever remeber this many offseason articles in a year past? It seems like every day there are a ton of articles
Yes, quite rightly, I suppose. I did read the article, and I'm still saddened. Honestly, pro wrestling has definitely got a higher profile than greco-roman amateur wrestling.
Re: Re: Re: 12/18/02: Donovan, Arena and Rochester You can email him from a link on the paper's main sports page. His address is: keubanks@bakersfield.com
Just when we thought we had something going in Rochester, and we see how truly non-soccer they are in their thinking. "The latest version of turf"...give me a break. Here we go again...
Me too. My favorite was the gibe at the end: "In 'Star Trek: Nemesis' the crew of the Enterprise go where no man has gone before," says Alan Ray. "A WNBA game."
