With all the stuff going on with our manager, missed the Ballon D’Or news about Real Madrid throwing a hissy fit and boycotting the ceremony last minute bc Vini Jr lost the award to Rodri (despite RM getting team of the year and manager of the year).

They claim they have been “disrespected”.

Have a lot of sympathy for Vini wrt racism etc but this award voted for by over a hundred journos and Rodri is deserving. In some ways that they had so many contenders from their team in Vini, Jude & Carvahal probably split their vote and Rodri success at both international and club level probably decisive.

So pretty classless and entitled by RM and especially Perez who can suck it :)

Vini had booked a venue for a party and RM had planned a whole load of celebrations with sponsors in anticipation.

Sounds like lot of fun, respect for Vini and I hope it's not down to his anti-racist stand. Hope he wins in the future.

Thing with this is did Rodri deserve it this season, he 100% deserved it the year before though so makes up for it

It is done on football seasons rather than calendar year now (was changed a few years back).

Last season he played 50 games for City and scored 9 with 14 assists (not bad for a DM) as they won the EPL.

He was the awarded Player of the Tournament as Spain won the Euros.

He only lost one game all season across all teams and comps.

For context (ie not strictly relevant) but he also scored the winner in the UCL final for City end of the season prior. So was some purple patch before his ACL injury a few weeks back.

TBH, I know the non African or black posters wont agree, but I believe all black players should boycott all fifa events until they get racism in check on all fronts. One example is extreme punishments. If you can get 8 months for missing a drug test, or however long Toney got for gambling, surely racism can get more.

It doesnt matter anyone, all award shows are biased and pretty stupiud

i'd understand the boycott if they gifted Messi yet another one.

even if you dislike city and Spain, objectively Rodrigo is not an unworthy choice.

Vinícius Jr. didn't really do it for me in the Copa América either

My only concern is they turn things like criticism of Israel into anti-Semitism. It becomes a political tool to silence opposition to certain policies.

IMO I'd rather see lesser punishments, including on gambling and drugs. For me it's not about having stronger laws and governance, change comes more effectively from good culture and decency.

I know ppl will say it will encourage it, make it almost normal. To which I say fair point, but now you know who the racists and morons are.

We've already known who the racist were and are. We see them everyday.

Im not opposed to a political tool to silence opposition, when the opposition is racist and oppressive.

But a balon dor boycott because the program is stuppid anyway. It wasnt that long ago that the host asked Ada Hegerberg to twerk on stage after she won best female player.

If they wont boycott, use the stage to talk about difficult issues. Use your platform.

Will it go from jailing a group of morons for monkey chants against Vini into jail time for calling a transgender soccer player who wins Balon d'Or a man?

It might discourage racism, it might also grow the ranks of the skinheads in jail and create an even worse problem.

If these laws are to exist, they must be very limited and very clear to limit abuse. There needs to be programs in jail to honestly address racism and help people change, rather than just locking someone up and making them a worse person.

100% agree but IIRC it was etoo who suggested something similar but there is lack of unity. Been saying something same, severe punishment or docking of points after each count. Hurt where it hurts most else kneeing ain't gonna help further.

    TRENT ALEXANDER ARNOLD CARES.

in all seriousness, the best option might be for the black / African players to create their own awards if no one else will properly recognise them.

better than waiting an eternity for others who simply don't care to do it

Funny enough I agree about this, as an African. It's like the BET concept. Make your own instead of waiting in queue for a Grammy, which lost It's reputation decades ago and choices can't stand up against scrutiny.

A manager whose half-time team talks result in increased motivation, desire and fast second-half starts will be something we haven't seen in ages :)

Real Madrid lose at home 1-3 to AC Milan, prior to this they lost 0-4 to Barcelona at home (with their weekend game cancelled owing to Spain flooding).

So Madrid fans have watched 1-7 across their last 180 minutes

Maybe they should have used last weeks break when they decided against travelling to the Ballon D'Or ceremony to do a little more training :sneaky:

Sporting had so much energy defending together, cutting the space. I'm not sure Garnacho or Rashford or most of our players have this much intensity stamina and commitment.
