Better late than never..... :::SIGH:::: From today's Boston Globe, Baker & Howey are headed home http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/articles/2004/11/27/baker_howey_head_home/ This gives us at least one SI spot. What euro defender is on the radar?
Don't be too certain the defensive help might not come domestically. All cards are on the table right now.
So we now how many of our four SI slots filled-- Pepe and _______? I think Brilliant will need one if he makes the team.
Richie Baker and Steve Howey return to their native countries http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=129110&itype=4073&iCategoryID=429 Baker I think could develop into an all-star. There's no way I would've let him go if I were in charge. Another thing is that outside mid isn't the deepest position in MLS. He could've had a much better season if he didn't play the same position as Steve Ralston. Howey, I can understand, allthough I still would've kept him too. It's not everyday that a fomer English international comes to MLS. Besides he didn't look to bad in the games I saw him play, plus the Revs need a leader in the defense.
One of them was going to be released anyway. Howey would have been the most overpaid player out of the 5. Baker wasn't happy in NE, I think the Revs had no option here.
Re: Richie Baker and Steve Howey return to their native countries Well he didn't look good enough to keep from my vantage point. If someone wanted to make the argument that he wasn't in shape, it's one I would understand but disagree with. The argument that he played well enough to keep (as an expensive SI) is one I don't agree with or understand.
Re: Richie Baker and Steve Howey return to their native countries Not to discourage minority views, but neither one did to me either. Baker had his chance. He got off a few good crosses, but was never a threat to penetrate or shoot, didn't have much of a left foot, was not especially fast, was not clever in tight space, was never able to challenge in the air, didn't defend well, and dribbled with his head down. If he were that good, Nicol would have found a place for him or he would have been prime trade bait. Baker wasn't. Nicol didn't.
Re: Richie Baker and Steve Howey return to their native countries wholeheartedly agree. on more than one occassion, i thought/told different people that i was watching games with that baker plays EXACTLY like every player i control while sitting down with the playstation.....all crapshoot crosses, no penetration, no air challenges (b/c i've never learned how to), uh..hard tackle, uh...hard tackle, uh...hard tackle......and you know how that goes.
i think it was just the fact the richie wasnt happy with his PT. most people dont like sitting the bench, especially when everyone except the coaches know they can be useful.
One of the primary reasons Baker made the move from Shelbourne to New England was to get playing time, but that didn't work out for a variety of reasons. If that's what he's hoping to find, then hopefully he'll find or create better opportunity for this having returned to his old club. The Magpie
Re: Richie Baker and Steve Howey return to their native countries Sir Bobby Charlton is a former England international, and I wouldn't want him playing for the Revos, either. Mostly because he's about 70 years old, although he's still faster at his age than Howey is now.
Re: Richie Baker and Steve Howey return to their native countries The lack of hair makes him more aerodynamic .
Apparently Howey is training with Blackburn: http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/s...138/138696_howey_links_up_with_blackburn.html Apparently he also played in MLS. I remember a few minutes of that...not sure it counts.
If you're in the immediate Back Bay area, you can probably hear screams of "OH DEAR GOD" coming from the third floor of the Pru right now.
The odds of Blackbum going down just went up considerably. The mere thought that they would even consider him should be enough to condemn them to relegation. Or how many beers has he bought Sparky Hughes over the years? In that case, payback would be a real b*t*h.
Frank, do you have specific information that Howie has a drinking problem/issue or is your repeated suggestion to that effect just your way of talking about older EPL players? In the past you have made similar statements about Coach Nichol. Do you have anything objective to back up your assertions?
