Interesting - the Jeff Stewart trade makes it seem liek Chivas gets yet another TI for their roster - they just may yet field an entire team of Chivas Guad players.

It was an interesting trade between the two expansion teams. RSL get defender Jeff Stewart for an extra youth international slot in '05. So does this mean that you can also trade for an additional SI slot?

There never was any incentive to win the SS.

Yes, they know hold 4 SI slots and 6 YI slots (TI's have been eliminated according to the latest MLS press release discussing the new roster rules). Johnny Walker in the nets and 10 Mexican field players......there you go. Scrounge up some green card holding hispanics to fill out the rosters and they are done.

Torres already is one of those, I think. Wonder if they'll try to trade Taylor and a SuperDraft pick for someone else's YI?

Arturo Torres is a local boy from Torrance, California. He is "a U.S.-born right-sided midfielder of Mexican descent." He is NOT a "Youth International."

Torres becomes center of L.A. rivalry

Then he would would have said "Mexican national".

Once again, Torres is a US citizen, as American as roast beef [w/ a chipotle glaze ;) ]

hasn't he gone to a U-23 camp at some point?

I don't know about the U-23 camp but he was a last-minute replacement at a full MNT camp last December:

Wait a minute... didn't we used to send three teams before??
The MLS Cup winner, the runner-up, and the SS.

We've sent as many as four, but in some years the Champions Cup has more teams in it. There are only eight teams total now, so the U.S. gets two.

In the past, when we've had only two teams MLS has said that the berth was earned by winning the Supporters Shield. However, by coincidence such teams have also been MLS Cup finalists or the MLS Cup winner and the Supporters Shield winner were one and the same, so now they're trying to say that they've always done it this way (having the MLS Cup finalists go). Yes and no depending on how you look at it.
