As it turned out, Home Depot Center revenues far exceeded expectations during the first year, meaning the university's cut from gross receipts was not $200,000, but $550,000, said George Pardon, the university's vice president of finance and administration. So in its first year of operation alone, the 13,000-student university has received more than $1 million -- critical considering the budget cuts the state has made while it deals with its fiscal crisis, Pardon said. "It provides more financial resources for the campus, which is always helpful during difficult economic times," he said. "Over the last two years we have experienced budget reductions in excess of 10 percent of our budget. Those numbers equate to over $8 million." Unlike state money, however, the AEG cash comes with no strings attached, allowing the university more latitude in deciding how to spend it. There are other benefits as well, ranging from on-campus accommodations for university conferences to the reactivation of a dormant hotel management program. AEG is required to provide 10 paid internships annually, which are valued at around $100,000 a year. The conference center-hotel is seen as the key to retaining the summer training camp for the National Football League's San Diego Chargers.
from the Cleveland Plain Dealer article: Where does this come from? I'm pretty sure Rob Stone said it last night, too. Maybe those memories I have of being at a game against the Hondurans at RFK really are just a nightmare.... Anyone else ever had that dream?
I didn't have that dream. But I do rememeber being (apparently unnecessarily) pretty worried toward the end of our qualifiers last time around.
Interesting. I believe I may have had that same nightmare. I recall Milton Reyes running up and down the field creating HAV-OC for the Americans. I also remember a sea of blue in the stands, and not the good kind either. Perhaps it's obvious to some but what exactly does it say on Jason's scarf? "U G U R" Just sign me, Curious in California
It kind of looks like "U G U A" which could be part of Uruguay? [Home]"Look at this country (points to globe) "U R Gay"--he he"[/Home}
Sorry--the joke should be: [Homer] "Look at this country, etc." [/Homer] Everyone always said I could never tell a joke right...
But why would he be wearing a Uruguay scarf at a RSL press conference? I think I now know what it says: INAUGURAL SEASON Mystery solved?
Didn't have that nightmare as I was in Italy at the time, but recall several friends who did report such an experience.
The other side looks like it has an "AS" which would be part of seASon so I bet you figured it out. Excellent Smithers.
(Voiceover) Was it all just a dream? Well, if it was just a dream, I somehow managed to take some photos. Actually, maybe it was a technicality. Although it was played at RFK, the match was so well attended by Honduran fans that it may as well have been an away game
I actually don't remember that dream. I remember some stupid satellite company (? DISH) that had a contract with my university cable company having their ESPN feed replaced by some other show, NFL preview I think. I missed most if not all of that game IIRC. Maybe that was a good thing. Maybe some day I'll get a copy and see the nightmare myself.
