I really, really want to see Montero make Oswaldo look silly like he did the Jaguares Keeper. That said, i see Santos finding a way to get a draw. Hope I am wrong.
It's going to be really hard, Seattle in preseason mode while santos is in full throttle. They are killing San Luis at the moment 5-2. This will all be moot if benjamin galindo doesn't use his starters
San Luis is 16th and was playing a man down most of the match correct? San Luis made it 2-1 going into half time while down a man before Santos exploded.
Actually it was 2 - 2 at the half after Moreno got the red card San Luis tied the game by scoring 2 goals down 1 player. Then 11 vs. 10 for the second half was too much. But hey who has time to bring up those little details?
Seattle actually had a better away record than home record last year. The turf isn't a big advantage.
Shit they are better than that, they are in 3rd place if you take into account the full year. They have 44 points, Tigeres 46 and Morelia 46. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011–12_Mexican_Primera_División_season#Relegation Shit I bet Seattle wishes they were playing Tigeres and not Santos.
According to the CCL website Jose Antonio Olvera is saying Santos Laguna wins tonight Oh snap! thems fightin words!!
Seattle played that style quite well last year on it. All it did was magnify your own mistakes. But brand new turf was just installed so the ball will bounce a little less and hold up better.
Pretty good win by Seattle, I do not think it will hold up but a pre-season Sounders team beating an in-season team is pretty good.
Seattle looked really good! Really quick and fast paced, they definitely prepared this game really good. But I don't think a 2 -1 will be enough.
Watched the second half before going to work today. Santos clearly struggled with the turf, you could see it in their short-passing. That said they only have themselves to blame for not taking control of the match right after the equalizer. That was a good result for Seattle.
Seattle did well within their limitations and made the most of their situational advantages. They leveraged their fresh legs, cool climate & sea level geography.. ran hard all game, disrupted Santos passing with intense pressure (and yes the turf seemed to help a bit). With that said the Sounders are as good as eliminated... Santos situational advantages get to play out next & one has to think they are likely to put a multi-goal difference between themselves & the Sounders.
Seattle showed their potential for this year in league play, but they also looked in preseason form, creating chances and not finishing them or not quite putting the pieces together under real game pressure. The goal from Santos was very characteristic of early season play, they started to disrespect Laguna a bit and fell asleep letting a dangerous team hold possession on the field too long thinking they had the threat contained and could sit back. I think Sig will give them a lecture on their tactics that led to a crucial away goal. Who knows what the outcome next week will be; Seattle is good under pressure and in away games and Santos is good at home. What bothers me about the Sounders chance is that every 50/50 challenge is awarded to Santos as a foul...maybe because the Mexican side are about six inches shorter then the Seattle team on average or the ccl refs don't like MLS style play, but that makes it hard.
