If Comunicaciones wins their last game it makes the Monterrey Seattle game very interesting for Monterrey
Code: # Team GP W D L F A D PTS 1 Seattle Sounders 5 3 1 1 9 5 +4 10 2 Monterrey 5 3 0 2 9 3 +6 9 3 Comunicaciones 5 2 1 2 7 9 -2 7 4 Herediano 5 1 0 4 2 10 -8 3 Sounders have already clinched at least 2nd in the group and with a draw or win against Monterrey, they clinch 1st. Monterrey clinches 2nd in the group if they draw the Sounders, since they own the 2nd tie breaker (GD between teams) with Comunicaciones, and they clinch 1st in the group if they defeat the Sounders. In order for Comunicaciones to advance, they have to defeat Herediano and Monterrey has to lose to Seattle. Herediano is officially eliminated from the competition.
Which shouldn't be an impossible task. I'm predicting the Sounders will be all but phoning it in, or, at best, trying to do enough to get a draw. The result down in Monterrey was a lucky one and Monterrey will most likely be ready for this game just to return the favor.
And considering Seattle are practically through, I'd say they'll just take it easy enough. ...Or not? ... ...So, anyone consider this a rivalry yet?
Nothing has really happened for it to become a rivalry. There generally needs to be some on-field antics for a rivalry to develop and aside from the scorelines, I don't think there has been any. Now, Monterrey coming back from the two goal deficit to beat the Sounders down in Mexico two years ago and the Sounders weathering the storm this year and pulling out the win down in Mexico are intriguing, but I don't think they are the stuff of rivalries.
...Yeah, I'm not sensing a rivalry on this end, either. N fact, I think there's more bad blood in the Mty-Hou spectrum of things than this other case.
I don't know why everyone even the concacaf is saying this, there's only a 6 goal difference between sounders and comunicaciones, everything can happen.. it's hard but i don't think seattle should think they are already in
Yep Look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011–12_CONCACAF_Champions_League_Group_Stage Specifically: A total of 16 teams will compete, which include 8 automatic qualifiers and 8 winners of the Preliminary Round. The teams were divided into four groups of four, where each team will play each other home-and-away in a round-robin format. If two teams are tied on points, the following tie-breaking criteria shall be applied, in order, to determine the ranking of teams:[2] 1: Greater number of points earned in matches between the teams concerned 2: Greater goal difference in matches between the teams concerned 3: Greater number of goals scored away from home in matches between the teams concerned 5: Reapply first three criteria if two or more teams are still tied 6: Greater goal difference in all group matches 7: Greater number of goals scored in group matches 8: Greater number of goals scored away in all group matches 9: Drawing of lots
And just because I'm bored: 5, 6, and 7 can change, but Seattle wins the first 3, so they don't matter.
A deeper squad combined with an easier group. Last time they had Marathon, Saprissa and Monterrey. Seems like Monterrey may not be as strong this year as they were last year. Saprissa was, at the time, clearly better than Herediano is this year, and Marathon better than Communicaciones. Last year, Monterrey won the tournament, and Saprissa made the semifinal. Probably more significantly, last time their schedule was probably the most difficult start possible. Away to Marathon, home to Monterrey, away to Saprissa. Going 0-3 in that pretty much did them in.
Even when Monterrey is playing like krap in both tournaments, Liga mexicana and concacrap league... they could finish first in their group. I don't understand why this crappy tournament takes a whole year... Copa Libertadores only takes about 6 months from start to finish. Hope to see some quality futbol next year in the semifinals and final, the only games worth watching.
Haha... Good one... give you credit for that. And, even if we win the Liga mexicana this season, which is plausible, our Coach just stated that he will play with Kids, either tournament Concachafa or Libertadores... http://es-us.deportes.yahoo.com/noticias/prefiere-tuca-concachampions-ir%C3%ADa-juveniles-201943277.html But honestly, I would pay to see Tigres in a libertadores again, just another game like Tigres vs Corinthians (of tevez) in 2005 or Chivas vs Boca Juniors... those are real games, no mamadas, like monterrey vs the almighty herediano. And, we do have better record in Libertadores than Monterrey.
Playoffs in MLS and down in Mexico in October/November, followed by freeze your ass off cold in the US until the end of February. Can't really shift the schedule further ahead because of the off-season between clausura and apertura and clausura playoffs.
One of the two things the CCL has over Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Better scheduling. Last year Libertadores playing the semifinals and final after the WC, that was stupid. The CCL actually respects the WC and fifa dates. the other thing the CCL does better is better officiating to mexican teams. Because you know once a Mexican reaches the final of Libertadores/Sudamericana Conmebol will do almost anything to keep us from lifting the trophy
