I got one suggestion: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fyUsHKBUUY"]Youtube Motagua vs Morelia 0-2[/ame] Most of the Morelia team were of youth/reserve/bench players with about 2 starters.
LA is uniquely qualified to fail in the CCL. They have an old and top-heavy roster. They will continue to look worse and worse as the multiple competitions and extensive travel continue to wear them down. I didn't pick them to get out of this group and I'm not ready to change that view now.
LA with what may be a last minute goal, they keep their hopes alive, up 2 - 1 Morelia will now go for it all.
The last goal probably could have been called offside. Dunivant was standing offside right in front of the goalie and probably obstructed his view. Poetic justice I guess?
That is what I said to MLS fans after the bad calls against MLS teams a few weeks ago. At the end the bad calls even out, we all remember when bad calls go against out teams, and easily forget when our teams benefit from bad calls. It is Karma not some type of Concacaf complot against MLS (or any other league).
Except they DIDN'T even out in terms of effect. If all of the bad calls are reversed (Keane no goal, the offside Morelia player interfering with Saunders and the offside LA player who obstructed keepers view), LA would be qualified right now and Morelia would be praying for Ala to not run up the score tonight against Motagua (LA would have 10 points and Morelia only 7, with them holding the first tiebreak against Morelia with a win and a tie). As it is, the Galaxy may still need some help with OTHER scorelines to get in. Some goal mistakes are indeed worse than others.
I am not saying the even out right away, shit there may have been bad calls against Morelia in other games that stopped them from getting more points and calls in favor of LA against Alajuarense or something. Or maybe LA still carrying a positive Karma balance and Alajuarence will be screwed by the ref tonight. I am sure we can find Morelia fans that can list dozens of calls that have gone against them this CCL; I am sure the same with LA Galaxy fans. At the end is not concacaf refs favoring one league over another, they are just bad call. I am not saying people should not get upset over bad calls, we all do; all I am saying people should not read too much into them and start seeing complots all over the place.
If Alajuelense beats Motagua tonight, which is likely they will go to the top of the group. Then they only need a tie to go to the knock out stage. However if Morelia and the Galaxy want to go on they need to win their last games. But then it would all be up to goal differmtial. With three teams on 12 points. Not a very promising for the Galaxy unless the just murder Montagua. But then again Montagua could pull a Taruo tonight and beat or tie the Costa Ricans.
Concacaf Tie breaker rules Greater number of points earned in matches between the teams concerned Greater goal difference in matches between the teams concerned Greater number of goals scored away from home in matches between the teams concerned Reapply first three criteria if two or more teams are still tied Greater goal difference in all group matches Greater number of goals scored in group matches Greater number of goals scored away in all group matches Drawing of lots Galaxy beats Alajuelense at rule number 2, so they only need to beat motagua to qualify. In that case Alajuense needs to tie at morelia in order to qualify.
LA wins the tiebreaker against Alejuense based on aggregate. Morelia has the edge on the Galaxy based on total goal differential. Therefore... The Galaxy win and they're in. Alejuense controls their own destiny and can win the group with two more wins. Morelia can still be knocked out if they win their last game if they win 1-0 and both Alejuense and the Galaxy run up the score against Motagua. Got it?
