Are you blind? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLvST5zw9Is"]Santos vs Monterrey Final Concachampions 3er Gol del partido - YouTube[/ame]
Relax, dude, it's no big deal at all. Cardozo even picked a cup up and pretended to drink from it. Those Torreon fans are classy, they stayed to watch the visitor get crowned, not many fans can stomach that. ------------ Man, what a match! A great CCL Final. The place was rocking. And now we have another CWC quarterfinalist to add to Bayern and Chelsea. Great Champions League football in a day and a half, where 3 home teams failed to get the job done to advance. Wow. Vucetich (King Midas) is now 12-0 in Finals. That's an Undertaker-like streak he has going. alwayslovecolumbia is the guy who went nuts when Mexico eliminated Colombia from the 2011 U-20 World Cup. He even posted a pic of himself during his tantrum. He's kinda nutty.
A request to Swiss, the mod here: Can you put all the Mexican groups in one thread, and all the usa groups in another thread for the Group Stage of the next CCL? We get more posts here when there are less threads to deal with.
If I were Monterrey I would add a third gold star for the 1993 CONCACAF Cup Winners Cup. Sure it was a lousy tournament, but it was official and still counts.
I disagree. It wasn't for the championship of the CONCACAF. If you include that lousy cup, then people will want to include the Giants Cup, which was lousy as well.
Let's be honest, the Champions Cup was lousy in many years as well. And the gold stars are blatant self promotion anyway. Pachuca has one for the Copa Sudamericana next to the CONCACAF ones.
Yes, plus Mexico teams do not include wins in the Copa Mexico for their stars (or championship records), so excluding the Concacaf Cup winners is similar to that.
SudAmericana is an iffy tournament/star, it is second rate, but it is kind of prestigious. Do European teams add stars for the UEFA cup or only Champions League? Also with Concacaf teams, ever since they started doing the split season, the stars are a bit of a joke in my opinion, 1 star today is worth less than a star back in the long season days. But like you say, they are for self promotion more than anything.
The CCC may have been considered lousy in some years, but what matters is what it stood for: the continental championship. Its significance doesn't make it lousy, IMO. The "cup winners cup" doesn't signify a championship of anything. As far as Pachuca, well their South American accomplishment was pretty big. But if they didn't include it as a star, that'd be understandable. Actually, I'd prefer their S.A. star to have a slightly different color, or some kind of differentation to distinguish it from the C-CAF titles. Same if a team wins the CWC. Make it a different color so people can know the difference.
Not aware of any clubs that add stars for international tournaments. Only domestic leagues, and there it differs from country to country. I say let everyone do what they want when it comes to international titles, as long as it's not silly overhyped competitions that aren't organized by a Confederation/FIFA. (I'm looking your way Superliga)
That was a heckuva run by Monterrey. They went through all 3 Mexican clubs, right? They must have a lot of confidence going into the playoffs.
Yes, Monterrey deserved this - no doubt. All-time update: Code: Countrywise list of winners Mexico 28 Costa Rica 6 El Salvador 3 Guatemala 2 Haiti 2 Honduras 2 Surinam 2 Trinidad and Tobago 2 USA 2
Yes, that is class! Just surprised it's that accepted that, given the media reaction here when a single idiot threw a single beer can on the pitch during during a LA Galaxy corner. Though in both cases, karma seemed to come through.
I think the media reaction had to do with their hatred of the sport more than anything. If Canadian media want to find truly classless fans, they should check out what Bruins fans said after getting eliminated from the playoffs.
