FIRST OFF, THIS IS NOT TROLLING, OR ME BEING SNARKY OR SNIDE. You guys have been great all year. Attendance numbers are up in Columbus. There has been a great atmosphere at the games I've seen on TV. Yet your first playoff game in a few seasons comes along and only 11,000 plus show up. You guys were out drawn by Chivas USA. What happened? This is a serious question too. If there is a logical explanation to this, then perhaps it could be something the league or Columbus Crew FO can look at to try and avoid these types of numbers in the future.
If there is already an existing thread on this weekends game, I apologize, I didn't see it. I'll look again, or post the link.
Talk to NE about low attendance if anything. Atleast the 11k that were there on Saturday were cheering together and not just the Nordecke was into it. By the end of the game the entire stadium was on their feet cheering and raising their play off scarves high! Minus some blue fans in the south end of course
The Crew didn't hand out 3K in free tickets. I'd bet 99% of that 11K was paid attendance. I'd like to see where our numbers match up in paid attendance with the rest of the teams in the playoffs. Probably in the top 2. Also since they budget 10K per game for paid attendance in the regular season and with playoff tickets a few dollars more then regular season tickets, I bet they made some nice money on that 11K. And since the lower bowl was 2/3rds full, those 11K all came out. I've seen games like that in CCS where they've announced 15-16K. It certainly looked more full then that game in Chicago on Thursday.
http://flickons.blogspot.com/ Not much different than in years past... And compare the attendance to the rest of the league's playoff numbers. They are all just about dismal.
Tickets are more expensive. My friend and I thought we'd just walk up and grab tickets like we did during the regular season. Not only were the same seats much more expensive but there was an even higher mark up on walk up sales. What we learned as fans: The Crew has give or take about 11,000 people who actually care about the team and will plan around it. After that it depends on weather and cost for everyone else.
Not really. 17K was spot on. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=16218518&postcount=63 Not bashing the Crew are anytyhing. Just wanted to clarify. But whatever, I think you've guys have done well on and off the field this year. It's good to see. Thursday should be a fantastic game.
Which if you think about it, is actually a huge improvement. For weather it was every bit as compariable to the Chivas USA game in April. That game was 7K, this game 11K.
And when they did that the last 3 years, they had to come up with an extra game post-season to make up for the missed playoff game. This way is better.
some good answers. Still wish you guys could get some more folks out for the game though. Understand that the thread wasn't an attack on Columbus either, and I'm sure that you're paid attendance was a high percentage. That said, 17,000+ in Chicago (and on TV it looked every bit of 17,000 in the stands). 19,000+ at Chivas (which is a huge surprise to me. Note to Chivas FO, how come you can't get that kind of turnout during the regular season?) 30,000+ in Houston. I think we all need to give the Houston fans some dap. That's impressive. 14,000+ in Salt Lake, which isn't too shabby considering they only had one week to sell the game and didn't even clinch a playoff spot until the final week of the regular season. You guys can do better. Fill up Crew Stadium this weekend. And extend an invitation to Section 8. Keep it clean, but man, that would be a fantastic atmosphere.
Are you guys the most overly sensitive supporters in MLS? Geez. How many times do I have to say I'm not attacking Columbus? I actually praised you guys for your regular season attendance in the OP. If you don't think you guys are capable of packing in more than 11,000 for a playoff game, then that's fine. I tend to disagree, and so does Sigi based on the article I read in the Dispatch.
I find it highly unlikely that we will surpass the Saturday night attendance. It's a Thursday match and regardless of the importance of the match, some people just can't make the drive. A large number of the Crew's fanbase come from cities like Cincy, Dayton, Cleveland, Indi, etc. that might not be able to make it due to work/school the next day. That being said, I also know of some diehards that are flying in from DC and one from Boston that flew in this past weekend that will be flying back Thursday for the match, so maybe some others will decide to make similar sacrifices for such an important match.
Ticket prices certainly didn't help. I didn't do my research and was dumbfounded that the prices went up. As a college student, that was pretty painful.
The ticket prices are almost double for a playoff game over the regular season game.I sit sit in Sec. 126. I do hope that they do another rally I had a lot of fun.
Granted they are doing it because nobody expected them to host the conference finals, but RSL has the right way of treating fans......half price tickets for the conference final for all season ticket holders.
