1. 1996 2. 1997 3. 1998 4. 1999 5. 2000 6. 2001 7. 2002 8. 2003 9. 2004 10. 2005 11. 2006 could someone explain to me why 2006 will be our "10th anniversary season"?
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? 1997 is the first anniversary - therefore 2006 is the tenth anniversary -- 11th season but 10th anniversary
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? Because our "first aniversary" was in our second season, so our 10th anniversary will be at the start of our 11th season. Your 13th birthday is actually the start of the 14th year of your life, for example.
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? this is the way i see it: variable A = seasons completed at the end of the celebrated season variable B = the # of seasons being celebrated during the season the caps celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2002-2003. at the end of that season they completed their 30th season. 30th aniversary during season #30. A = B dc is celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2006. at the end of the season they would have completed their 11th season. 10th anniversary during season # 11. A doesn't= B make sense to anyone else? because after all the galaxy and crew celebrated season ten LAST year, and dc la and columbus have all been in it since the start.
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? Obviously you don't have a wife or girlfriend - or if you do you are in the dog house a LOT. The 10th anniversary is 10 years from the first date/game - which means the 10th anniversary is the first game ten years after the first - tada the 11th season. This is not rocket science.
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? The same way that the second millenium started on January 1st, 2001, not on January 1st, 2000. All the parties were a year early. The Crew, Galaxy, Wizards, Revolution, Rapids, Burn (aka FC Dallas), and MetroDonkeys and Major League Soccer are all celbrating their 10th anniveraries this year. Last year was the 10th season of the league.
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? Wait wait wait... what am I hearing? Is someone questioning the logic of the MLS/SUM marketing braintrust? Someone doth commit such heresy? If MLS/SUM say season 11 is the 10th anniversary then the 11th season is the 10th anniversary.
Re: erm, havent we already played 10 seasons? I concur with JH6 here. Both in the math and that it's not rocket science (THAT, I'm qualified to answer ).
Seriously. Is this a league-wide thing or is one of our homegrown marketing dorks responsible? Or maybe we outsourced it to the genius in NY that came up with "Metro Fever"? And, yes. I realize that slipping "anniversary" in there makes it technically accurate. But no less stupid. And while we're at it... Could someone link to the priceless thread from last year explaining to the math-challenged and nine-fingered how the 2005 season was actually the league's 10th year even though 1996 was the first? "But 2005 minus 1996 is only NINE years!"
Yes lets count them... 1996 = 1 1997 = 2 1998 = 3 1999 = 4 2000 = 5 2001 = 6 2002 = 7 2003 = 8 2004 = 9 2005 = 10 2006 = 11 Of course maybe they are using 1996 = 0. Then it would be 10 years this year
When you are born you are 0 and then 12 months later you are 1. When you are married, 12 months later it's your first anniversary. DC United starting playing in 1996... K
But it is your first year on the earth, not your zeroeth year. That was the debate about the new millenium starting on Janury 1, 2001 not January 1, 2000.
an·ni·ver·sa·ry n. pl. an·ni·ver·sa·ries The annually recurring date of a past event, especially one of historical, national, or personal importance: a wedding anniversary; the anniversary of the founding of Rome. A celebration commemorating such a date.
Did you ever see Pol Pot and Doug Logan (Mendoza) in the same room together? No. Coincidence? I think not...
I don't think we've seen more threads on such a thoroughly pointless subject since we had two stars on the away jersey a few years ago.
