To date, our beloved Revs have won 89 games in their still brief history. Only Chicago trails us and only by 3 wins and with a 2 year late start.

LA, DC, Dallas and Columbus have crossed the 100 win mark. Columbus just this year - against us.

KC, SJ and the Mutts will cross the mark with no trouble. Colorado needs 7 wins and by the look of things might be hard pressed to get there.

Anyone want to float a guess as to when our 100th win will come and against whom?

The soonest it could come is August 16th against San Jose. That would meaning winning all of our next 11 games.

We have never won more than 15 games in a season, so we will at least have to tie our best season ever.

    Please feel free to speculate.

As the day draws closer, maybe we should plan some kind of celebration/statement/event to commemorate the occassion.

Interesting point... I don't see why it won't happen this year.

On a related note, it may take us longer to move up from having the all-time worst games-to-points ratio in the league. We were slightly behind San Jose last I recall, and unless they fall apart with the Baby Jesus off eating croissants and brie, they should still be ahead of us.

    Coach Barry,

Could you post the all-time master standings table?

    Thanks!

    MLS all time records

Here is the all time table for current MLS teams, including all games played as of today, June 13, 2003.

    Team..GP.....W-L-T.......Pts....%

    LAG...223...124-79-20...392...0.611
    CHI...159....85-56-18....273...0.603
    DCU...223...110-95-18...348...0.537
    DAL...221....103-99-19...328...0.510
    CLB...224....103-102-19..328...0.502
    KCW..225....98-101-26...320...0.492
    SJE.....97....97-106-19...310...0.478
    COL...223....93-112-18...297...0.454
    NYM...223...96-117-10....298...0.451
    NER...224....89-118-17...284...0.430

    A few notes...

Don't forget that several games were cancelled after 9/11, that's why the GP numbers are off a bit. For win%, I divided wins by wins plus losses, leaving ties out of the equation. Why? I have no idea. I suppose I could have done a % of available points instead. Is there an standard formula?

I'm highly in favor of the %avail approach. Here's that table. Note that the only positional change is the Mutts inching slightly ahead of Colorado.

      Team GP   W   L  T Pts  Pct
      LAG 223 124  79 20 392 .586
      CHI 159  85  56 18 273 .572
      DCU 223 110  95 18 348 .520
      DAL 221 103  99 19 328 .495
      CLB 224 103 102 19 328 .488

do these numbers include playoffs? cuz if they do, that would make a difference in LA's and NE's standings.

Wow: only 3 clubs in the whole league more than 10 games over .500--and one of those only around since '98. It gives you a sense of just how dominant LA, DCU, and Fire have been.

And, I suppose, it gives you a sense of how quickly DCU is plunging down the ladder from dominance to doormat.

    Nice thread guys.

I find it kinda hard to believe that KC has *only* tied 26 games shouldn't it be like 40 by now? Pretty amazing that Metros have only 10 as well.

DC has basically taken 3 and a half years off and is still over 50% wins, that's impressive.

Stunning, isn't it? After all the dominance DCU had in MLS's inaugural years, they're going in the completely opposite direction.

Normally I would be quite put out by this, but with Kovalenko and Stoichkov on their squad...

Stats are amazing in that the numbers lie:

    Total Wins - 998
    Total Losses - 985

Yet the total winning % for all teams is .491

    What gives?

    (somebody please doublecheck my math)

TB and Miami aren't in so that would explain wins and losses not being equal.

Winning % involves ties as well, but I'm not actually checking the math 8)

Oooops, I forgot about Miami and TB... anybody care to add their stats in?

Also, I averaged the winning % by adding them all together and dividing by 10.

averaging all the pct in my table the value comes out to .505, which is a fair number, since the winning percentage is suppose to be around .500.

I thought the Waftman's chart was for 'percentage of points available'. If that is the case then, the % in his chart is only indirectly related to win-loss percentage. It would also make sense that the 'points available' in soccer will always be below .500 as long as there are ties.

What is interesting to me about the chart is Dallas. Here is the fourth 'best' team in history and have they even been to the finals? Consistent 'goodness', never quite making it to greatness. Interesting.

Re: Re: Re: MLS all time records

I see you chose to treat a draw as half of a win. But in the standings, a draw only counts for a third of a win. Why do you represent your method as "a better representation"?

No, actually, MLS standings are based on straight point totals. And anyway, since when has an MLS practice precluded us from offering ways we consider better? Coach Barry simply mentioned the alternative calculation and I did the legwork. And despite what MLS says, I believe this is a more accurate measure.

If Miami is higher than us... I for one... will be completely, and utterly ... pissed.
