Well, Gullit literally didn't go to the 1994 World Cup. So there were problems in Gullit's mind with this generation of Dutch players for the 1994 World Cup. What were the real problems I don't know. They never told or talked about it. so clearly, so publicly and so explicitly "!
yes Zico playing for Real Madrid or Manchester City nowadays with all this incredible infra-structure, amazing facilities and protection from the main referees and Var -Team no limits on foreign players in professional squads. without injuries better recoveries after matches Honestly , I don't know If Lionel Messi it would be conjugated in the same verb with Zico . "! in these gentle present fields
Yes, maybe - there seemed to be potential to use Gullit in 1994 in such a setup, but perhaps a clash of viewpoints with him and the coach in the build-up to the World Cup. I think Letmepost and you had a good discussion, both making valid observations re: Bergkamp's first touch and style of play (other fast Arsenal players he could utilise included Anelka, Overmars, Wright, to an extent Pires too btw). I think there could be an olive branch route for Letmepost and Sexy Beast in the potential deeper delving into the 'situation after first touch' analysis LMP was hinting at also - I think both would take an interest in that kind of aspect (of course it's difficult to look into properly without widespread collected OPTA style stats, but nevertheless....).
Sadly, that would be impossible without hiring extra people who are already trained to measure threat for any given situation. And are paid full-time to watch footage. It was more of a hypothetical description, of the kind of statistical metric might be grabbing the headlines for Dennis Bergkamp during his prime years. Just because Dennis Bergkamp is better represented by assists than goals, doesn't mean assists are his best conceivable countable statistical metric. I think there are interesting statistical glorification sweetspots for almost every player and their idiosyncrasies, maybe for Luis Figo it is his number of accurate crosses, but tallied only it is done after a successful dribble, so we measures both his accurate crossing, and his ability to beat his man in conjunction. For Dennis Bergkamp, I would like to calculate cumulative added threat created due to first-touches only, with an unsuccessful touch being counted negatively like a shot missed in expected goal-overperformance evaluation. Those who try too much drastic and fantastical first-touch moves based on its hypothetical maximal impact, will be penalized like players who miss too many low chance long-shots, and those who only play very safe first-touches with extra-emphasis on ball control, rather than threat gained, will be marked like the expected goal-overperformance from strikers who never miss, but only score tap-ins. There will be the need to be precise and reliable, whilst also being maximally threatening. For me, Dennis Bergkamp had wonderful combination of the two. Of course, I do not get to decide what gets statistically tallied.
That might be the right link for that actually I got the next part done too now, and again no restrictions (I guess it'll still remain to be seen if anything does get blocked when I put together the whole video again, but I'm aiming for it not to this time anyway): On that part I've got these: Wlodzimierz Lubanski - Goals vs Roma 1969/70 and England 1973, and assist vs Tunisia in World Cup 1978 Elias Figueroa - Goals at Gremio 1975, vs Rio Branco 1976 and at Colo-Colo 1978 (I haven't identified any assist actually I don't think by Figueroa - the one vs West Germany in 82 WC is shown as his on Transfermarkt, but the commentary makes it seem like it wasn't I think even if it's hard to be sure, and anyway it was a nice first time volley pass but nothing extraordinary and on a solo goal in some respect) Pierre Littbarski - Goals at Arminia Bielefeld 1981/82 and Schalke 1982/83, and assist vs France in World Cup 1982 Davor Suker - Goals vs Atletico Madrid 1994/95 and Real Sociedad 1996/97, and assist vs Hungary 1996 Preben Elkjaer - Goals vs Ireland 1984 (1986 WC qualifying) and at Brescia 1986/87, and assist to Lerby vs Uruguay in the 1986 World Cup.
I managed to get the next part of this done now too: Paul Gascoigne - Goals at Pescara 1992/93 and vs Aberdeen 1995/96, and assist vs Czechoslovakia 1990 Josef Masopust - Goal away to Italy 1958 and a goal for Dukla Prague I think (I'm not sure from which game to be honest), and assist vs Hungary in World Cup 1962 Enzo Scifo - Goals vs Sochaux 1990/91 and Fiorentina 1991/92, and assist vs South Korea in 1990 World Cup Rui Costa - Goals vs Ireland 1995 (Euro 96 qualifying) and Perugia 1996/97, and assist vs Lazio 1995/96 Paulo Roberto Falcao - Goals away to Corinthians 1975 and vs Cologne 1982/83, and assist vs Fiorentina 1980/81
The next part of it is completed now: Dragan Stojkovic - Goals vs Larija in Yugoslav Cup 1989/90 and vs Romania 1996, and assist away to Partizan in Yugoslav Cup 1988/89 Sandro Mazzola - Goals vs AC Milan 1964/65 and away to Switzerland 1970, and assist vs Brazil 1963 Paolo Rossi - Goals vs Spain 1978 and Sampdoria 1983/84, and assist in 3rd Place Play-Off with Brazil in World Cup 1978 Jan Ceulemans - Goals vs Anderlecht 1979/80 and I think away to Lierse 1980/81, and assist vs Greece 1985 Teofilo Cubillas - Goals vs Brazil in 1975 Copa America and Scotland in 1978 World Cup (I went with the open play goal from the latter one), and assist also vs Scotland in 1978 World Cup
Thanks for the rep Carlito (and William previously): I'll aim to get the final part added (Rob Rensenbrink, Gerson, Sandor Kocsis, Kazimierz Deyna, Jozsef Bozsik) within a couple of days or so and then mesh it all together and see if Youtube will allow this edition to publish without having to cut out any clips still this time. The (arguable) best available goals/assists are only a glimpse of the players of course, not something to base full judgements on, but it's interesting/fun to put them together anyway (even if I'm getting more limited now...and the final video of the series is planned to be even moreso probably with 1 goal, 1 assist for 25 players going along with ELO's Mr Blue Sky!)
Rensenbrink - Goals vs East Germany 1974 World Cup and Southampton 1976/77 and assist vs Liverpool 1978 (European Super Cup) Gerson - Goals vs USSR 1965 and away in Sweden 1966, and assist away to France 1963 Kocsis - Goals vs Finland 1951 and West Germany in 1954 World Cup group stage match, and assist vs Sweden 1955 Deyna - Goals vs Hungary 1972 Olympics Final and Italy 1974 World Cup, and assist vs North Korea 1976 Olympics Bozsik - Goals away to England 1953 and vs Yugoslavia 1955, and assist vs Austria 1955
I seem to have been able to publish the full video, with no restrictions of disallowed clips on Youtube too now
Another quick clarification/correction: that should say 1956 for the Yugoslavia game (2-2). Anyway after completing the video I got thinking re: the assists that in theory a few could enter the top 12 I had put for example near the top of this post: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/what-is-your-favorite-goal-ever.154146/page-6#post-39950297 (This is without considering the other 50 players I have done videos for in the series in between doing those original 25 players and this new video though of course). I feel like I could put the Rui Costa one and the Scifo one in the top 6 or contending for it at least, and likewise maybe the Gerson one and the Falcao one (it could be said I think that the tracking and/or marking on that one was a bit lacking but for the execution of that backheel volley cross straight onto his team-mate Pruzzo's head it'd still be up there I think for me) for the top 12. I think for example the Rensenbrink one, Kocsis one and Barnes one wouldn't be too far away either. For goals possibly I wouldn't quite put any on this new video into the top 12 listed there. This isn't exactly like compiling a 'top goals' (or assists) of all-time list anyway though, as apart from ones unavailable or unseen by players featured there would also be lots of outstanding goals by less famous (as well as newer) players. Even among quite famous players (but probably not relevant for discussion in this thread) I immediately remember I put a Matt Le Tissier one (away at Blackburn Rovers in 94/95) as top Premier League era one in English football for example, and I think of one from this season by Richarlison for Tottenham which to be fair was quite a stunning goal from long range, as another example....
