i know this is probably really trivial or something..but what's the big deal with wearing a #10 shirt? does it have some sort of special significance or something??

it's widely recognized as your playmaker... your attacking central mid

often your best, most talented player

the u.s. hasn't had one since tab ramos... claudia is a great holding mid... and that's not a knock on him

does anyone know what all the numbers mean.

i mean i know that the #8 and #11 are very important numbers too. but zidane wears the #4 i believe. #21 seems to be an important attacking number -- usually for the young #9. #1 is always a goalkeeping number. and 2-4 are usually defender numbers.

IIRC, I believe #21, as Donovan has worn in the past, represents your next up and coming #10. Ergo:

    10 + 11 (next team of players) = 21.

More importantly, did I use 'ergo' correctly? It would be a first! :)

In the past teams used to traditionally number the players from 1 -11 starting in G with #1 up to #11. I believe Italy is the only team that continues this trend today. In other words there are no numbers reserved for a particular player, ever.

They're traditional 1-11 from back to front. More or less in a 3-4-3. That's why some many forwards tend to wear 9 and 11.
