This week is the 10th anniverery of Kurt Cobain's suicide. Don't know what else to say beyond that, I really wan't into music much when it happened (I was 11), so all I know of the public reaction is what I have read and seen on TV. FWIW, I think the way it is handled in About a Boy (the novel) is probably the best. For those of you who haven't read it, the climax of the book occurs on teh day of Cobain's suicide and it has a great impact on the course of evetns. The book itself is named after a song called About a Boy, that was written as a euology of sorts for Cobain.
I was somewhat disappointed that the movie took ommitted the whole Cobain suicide part, but I realize it didn't have much of a place in a Hugh Grant film, esp since they moved the story up by about 5 years. It really doesn't feel like 10 years.
And, of course, that song was named what it was because one of Nirvana's classic songs was "About a Girl." Here's a serious piece and a pretty funny one from today's SF Chronicle: 10 years ago today, Kurt Cobain took his life. What part of him lives on in music? In his fans? And then there's Courtney by James Sullivan Granted, Nirvana revived rock, but the band has Britney to answer for, too by Aidin Vaziri The guy who wrote the second one is pretty funny, and he annoys the **** out of fans of any band he interviews...
