Here is a quick one for a Choclate Eclair (sp?) cake. It is really rich but fantastic with a glass of milk. 2 boxes of Jello French Vanilla pudding Whip Cream Milk Choclate Icing Box of grahm crackers Milk Mix together the French Vanilla pudding with the milk. Use slight less than the required amount (I think it is 1 cup per box so use 1.5 cups) when you make the Jello Once the pudding is done, mix in the whip cream. On a cake pan put a layer of grahm crackers(full layer), poor in a layer of the Pudding/Whip cream mix, put another layer of grahm crackers, poor in another layer of Pudding/Whip Cream mix, put in another layer of Grahm crackers, and then put a layer of the choclate icing layer on top. Refrigerate for about 6 hours and it is ready to serve. Fast and Yummy. Especially with a glass of milk. It is very rich though.
Ten minutes to make, or ten minutes to serve? Easiest, yet delightful: Fresh berries served in a crystal champagne glass (not a flute), with champagne poured over them. Easy, and impressive: have ice cream on individual plates, warm cherry pie filling in a good-looking (ie: copper) pan. Serve the ice cream, then splash roughly 1/2 cup of brandy on top of the pie filling and flambe. Once the liquor burns off, serve the topping. Easy, but takes a while to cook: Dump Cake. If you need the recipe, I'll post it, but I think most people know this one.
Just quickie desserts is what I was going with here. No sugar cages or anything like that. Just nice and simple quick dessert options that are better tasting than some other options.
Hot chocolate ganache served over store-bought vanilla ice cream, with either nuts or sliced fresh fruit on the side. To make the ganache, combine equal parts of chopped chocolate and heavy cream in a saucepan, bring to a low boil stirring constantly until the chocolate is melted, then allow to cool for a few minutes before pouring it on the ice cream. Ganache is super stuff. I made it for the first time recently to pipe onto the top of a cheesecake, and I'm surprised how versatile it is. Warm or barely at room temp, it's runny. If you refrigerate it for a couple of hours, taking it out to stir every 30 minutes, you've got yourself a great THICK chocolate frosting. A few hours more, and you've got truffle-quality chocolate. (Just be sure to shape it and add any additional flavorings before it hardens into rock-like truffle consistency!)
You cannot go wrong with this: Dump Cake 1 can cherry pie filling 1 can crushed pineapple 1 box dry yellow cake mix 2 sticks margarine, melted 1 cup nuts and/or coconut (optional) Mix the pie filling & pineapple in the bottom of a 9"x13" cake pan. Sprinkle the dry cake mix over this mixture evenly. Drizzle the melted margarine over top, then add any nuts or coconut that you wish. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees. To make it even richer, serve hot with a scoop of ice cream
2 T butter strawbwerries sugar cinnamon Frangelico Heat butter until it melts. add strawberries and cook for a few minutes. add sugar and cin. add splash of Frangelico. (will cause high flames so good if you want to show off, bad if you burn someone.) When juice is reduced serve on chocolate chip cookie that has a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it. Yummy.
Add about 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice to a can of sweetened condensed milk. Stir til thickened. Slice fresh strawberries and add 1/4-1/2 cup sugar. In dessert cups, place a about 1/4 cup of lemon juice mixture. Top with berries. Then, top with whipped cream. Or, get a ready-prepared pie crust, do the lemon thing, make a meringue (3 egg white, 1/2 cup sugar). Place lemon filling in shell, top with meringue, bake at 325 until lightly browned.
I once saw a recipe using Chips Ahoy, chocolate pudding & whipped cream, like a trifle. But I think a good cookie ought not to be tampered with!
As many good, ripe strawberries as you can get Melted dark chocolate Pat strawberries with a paper towel or lint-free cloth to get them as dry as possible. Dip strawberries in chocolate and allow to cool on wax paper (or the dull side of aluminum foil) until the chocolate hardens. To make this really easy, look for the microwaveable chocolate dipping stuff that they usually have in the produce section. Chocolate covered strawberries never fail to impress and they are by far my favorite easy dessert. I also like to get some nice bakery chocolate chunk cookies and dip them about halfway into the chocolate. It's a great way to dress up ordinary cookies. I filled a domed cake plate with both these items recently for my sister's baby shower and they were gone in less than 30 minutes.
Melt 2 large Hershey chocolate bars and mix them with a container of whip cream. Put the mixture into a premade graham cracker pie crust and enjoy!
Manchester tart Well it's what I know as Manchester tart. I used to have it at school and it was damn good. So I made it the other day - not as good as at school but goddamnit I'm willing to practice! 1x 6/7/8inch readymade shortcrust (sweet) pastry case. Some raspberry jam (could be any flavour I guess) Some bananasenough to line the bottom of the case, sliced. Custard. It's quick preparation we're looking for so.... Buy the pastry case. You can buy the custard ready made in cans but I don't like it. Instead I go halfway there. I don't make it all from scratch but just use the custard powder. Add milk sugar and boil a bit and that's it. A warning though - make the custard relatively thick, so it's more like the consistency of instant whip (but not aerated). Whilst all that is simmering and bubbling away - take your pastry case and put some jam in the bottom and spread it over the bottom. More thana smear but not too much. The get some bananas, slice them to your liking, I like around 3 or 4 mms. Line the bottom with them over the jam. PLus a few more slices for good measure. When your custard is done to your liking, pour into the case and leave. When it's chilled some more, put it in the fridge ajd that's it. Ok it takes more than 15minutes from start to eating but it's less than 15minutes prep time.
Heathbar cake 1 frozen pound cake (defrost) 1 package of crushed Heathbar 1 large container of Coolwhip (defrost) Defrost cake and carefully split in half length wise (so you have a top and bottom). Mix in oh say a cup (or more, whatever looks good) of the Heathbar into the Coolwhip and then spread some on the top of the bottom half of the cake. Put the top part of the cake back on and then spread the remaining mixture all over the cake like frosting. You can chill again or just start eating. K
These are like "marry me" brownies - take a standard Duncan Hines brownie mix, and instead of using oil, put 3/4 of a cup to 1 cup smooth peanut butter in, plus a mashed banana or two to keep it moist, and a bag of Nestle chocolate chips to up the fudge factor. Then swirl more peanut butter on top. Follow the oven and bake time instructions as per the package.
