A big part of my supporting the WPS had to do with Tiffeny Milbrett playing. When I saw Chastain and Scurry go in the regular draft, I was positive that Tiff was a lock. Maybe they have an abundance of young forwards but having Milbrett anyplace on the field can produce. She has been doing great things for the Whitecaps. If you read the full bio's of every player selected in the draft, you would see the majority couldn't even carry Milbretts shoes. This is not to be a put down in anyway on the selected players, but Milbrett is heading to the Hall of Fame unless she gets hosed like Fawcett did for a while. Except for Lilly and possibly Wambach, how many other players can you say are going to the Hall of Fame. Milbrett will draw fans just like Lilly. The WPS coach's should wise up. They will need all the help they can in getting established.

Maybe they didn't draft her because they were concerned about her back acting up. That's what affected her for the W-League playoff game last summer.

I would think and hope that Tiff's back problem was an isolated incident. It did come at an inopportune time and I am sure it pissed her off but we are not talking about an ACL problem. She has always been one to hustle and contribute. She was a speed burner that could turn on a dime. I am sure she has lost a step with age but to see Milbrett weaving through traffic was a joy to behold. I have not witnessed that on the National Team since, although Amy Rodriguez has shown glimpses of it and looks promising. Fawcett lost a step towards the end but with her reading of the game you didn't notice.

I am SO excited! I hadn't heard about her back troubles (it seems there's so little information out there on Millie) but I hope she's ok. I was wondering why wasn't she in the main pool. If Scurry and Chastain are in, certainly Millie should be (unless it was her choice not to play for whatever reason). Considering after the US she's played for Sweden for 2 years and then Vancouver, she's definitely in game shape! I am crossing my fingers she makes it so I can root for a specific WPS team (she's my all-time favorite player).

Maybe she kept her name out of the draft because she only wanted to play for Gold Pride.

True, but wouldn't the "seasoned" players all get to basically choose where they want to go for the most part? Lilly is playing for Boston, Wambach for Washington, Chastain for the Bay Area, etc? I'm not saying they demanded the WPS "put me here" or nowhere (Milbrett was stuck in NY w/the WUSA), but would she risk it just to ONLY play in in N. CA?

Well one of the reasons for the Milbrett invitation has to be due to her connection to Christine Sinclair.

    Why do you think that?

That's exactly what it is. I didn't even think of that...

I had thought about the Sinclair connection too but wouldn't think that would be why a particular club would choose Milbrett in a national draft over another player.

Not to try and spread rumours around, but from my knowledge they have a close relationship.

I've heard the same but am trying to leave that out of this conversation (that would be better discussed via PM ;) )

In any case, I do hope Millie will be selected for this team! We'll know when? March 14?

I actually am not insinuating what you think. They run soccer clinics in together in Portland, both played for the Whitecaps, went to Chelsea etc, etc. Basically the Milbrett invitation means that an announcement of Sinclair's signing is imminent, which is very good news.

Millie and Sinclair are very close are soccer terms, Millie even went to China to support Sinclair.
Both of them are great strikers, and i can't wait for the season even more now.
    We must have Milbrett!

    Interview with Brandi Chastain here.

She talks about how the training camp is going, and mentions players who she thinks are doing well so far -- Leigh Ann Robinson, Carrie Dew, Liz Bogus, and some unknown named Tiffeny Mill-something.

God, what talk! "Insinuating" "not trying to start rumors" winking about pm's...what does it matter what their relationship is? It's like they are being "accused" of something. Who cares?!

They show up ready for work everyday, are the ultimate professionals, and leave it all on the field....
