Interesting article from the 10/7 Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal (it is on-line, but you have to be a subscriber to read archived articles).

The Galaxy bought up all the ad time, $20,000 worth, for their playoff game with KC on 9/28 and showed video of the new stadium construction in those spots with a season ticket number.

According to the article, this resulted in $100,000 worth of season ticket sales. Underlining perhaps, the lure of soccer stadiums and the fruit borne from putting some dollars out for advertising. Also from the story - 50,000 households watched that game, and KCAL9 in LA sold every ad spot it had for its regular season schedule.

The 10/7 issue also reported on the Radio Unica deal for the MLS final. Unica, as Warren noted on the other thread, will call the game and also have a pre and post-game show, and run their weekly MLS program that evening. Great news for MLS. Unica reaches 80% of the US Hispanic Population, so an all-day MLS fest can't be bad.

Don't know if others read, or can access, SBJ as well. If not, I'll try to summarize future articles about MLS. Unfortunately, the 10/14 issue looks to be MLS free.

The ads for the LA broadcast where sponsered by Home Depot. They were basically the flythrough computer generated video that's been linked on various threads about the stadium around here. There were also interviews with Doug Hamilton and various players talking about how great the stadium will be and telling viewers to callin now and put your deposit down. I've heard/read in various sources that the ads were very successful and they did get a lot of calls. Probably would have got more calls if the G's didn't look so poor in that match.

At prices of $370-$610 per season ticket next year. That means they sold about 200 season tickets. Not bad.

When I bought mine a couple of days ago I asked the rep if response has been good despite the HUGE increase in ticket prices between the rose bowl and HDNTC, He claims they have been extremely good. Of course, what else would he say?

Hope he's right. The Galaxy should shoot for 10,000 season ticket holders at least.

    How many does Columbus have?

10,000? I sincerely doubt the Galaxy had 2,500 season ticket holders this year. I've heard the Galaxy always have pretty much the lowest number of season ticket holders in the league.

I'd heard from a reliable source who unintentinally gave away a rough number that season ticket sales were between 4k and 5k this year.

I actually think that they are still only counting the $100 season ticket deposits. So that number is more like 1,000.

    If true,

    Even better.

I think that MLS will surely be hoping that the new stadium and a successful team leads to around 10,000 season tickets or so. (Especially when factoring in the 1/2 season or 5 game packs)

Didn't columbus have near 10,000 season tickets the last few years? It would make sense for LA's smaller stadium to create the same demand. After all, most never bothered to buy season tickets at the Rose Bowl because there was absolutly no reason to. Now, with the new stadium, it is a slight different equation.
