Atlantic Sun Conference 12:30 PM: FGCU (3-1-1) at Bellarmine (1-3-1) This contest was originally scheduled to be played on Oct. 12. It was postponed after FGCU experienced travel complications in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Big South Conference 6:00 PM: UNC Asheville (2-2-1) at Gardner-Webb (4-0-1) UNC Asheville, on a 2-game winning streak, can clinch a Big South tourney berth with a result. Gardner-Webb needs a win to keep its #1 seed hopes alive. Big Ten Conference 6:00 PM: Michigan State (4-3-1) at Ohio State (6-1-1) 7:00 PM: Maryland (5-1-2) at Rutgers (1-6-1) 8:00 PM: Northwestern (2-5-1) at Indiana (6-1-2) Indiana (15) takes an 8-game unbeaten streak into its final regular season Big Ten game. Northwestern (36), 2-4 on the road, needs points as it's 3 points out of tournament position with 2 games remaining. Ohio State (2) is just one point behind the Hoosiers and has a game in hand. The Buckeyes have an astonishing 10 wins vs. the top 100, versus just one loss. Michigan State clinches a Big Ten tourney berth with a result or Northwestern not winning at Indiana (which would also put idle UCLA and Washington into the field). Maryland (7) is 3 points behind Indiana and 2 back of Ohio State with 2 games to play. The Terps are 3-1-1 on the road.
Results Bellarmine 2, FGCU 0 Villanova 1, Drexel 1 Queens 3, VMI 0 Virginia Tech 2, Davidson 2 Gardner-Webb 1, UNC Asheville 1 Ohio State 2, Michigan State 2 Clemson 2, Wofford 1 Duke 4, Longwood 1 Rutgers 3, Maryland 1 Brown 2, Rhode Island 1 Princeton 5, Seton Hall 2 Mercer 4, Winthrop 0 Belmont 2, Lipscomb 0 Saint Louis 7, Blackburn (Ill.) 0 Indiana 6, Northwestern 1
Duke (4) picked up its 4th win over a team with an RPI > 170. The Blue Devils finish the regular season at home vs. Notre Dame. Clemson (16) won for the 6th time in a row, clipping Wofford 2-1. The Tigers finish ACC play at Virginia Tech (46), which gave up a late goal to draw with Davidson. The Hokies are just 2-5-3 vs. the top 100. Princeton (54) has 4 straight victories after a 5-2 win over Seton Hall. The Tigers are 5-4 vs. the top 100. Ohio State (2) drew 2-2 with Michigan State and that opened the door for Indiana (14), which promptly trashed Northwestern 6-1 to win at least a share of the regular season title. Ohio State must win at Maryland (18) to finish in a tie with the Hoosiers...I don't feel like diving into the tiebreaker rules in the Big Ten right now! Speaking of Maryland, the slumping Terrapins lost 3-1 at last-place Rutgers. Maryland can still grab the 2 seed with a win over Ohio State; otherwise, the Terps are the 3 seed. Clinching Big Ten berths tonight: the Spartans and idle UCLA and Washington. Northwestern, Rutgers and Penn State are eliminated since 8th-place Wisconsin hosts 7th-place Michigan and enough points will accrue to hold off everyone below them. The Wolverines need only a draw to advance. The Badgers get the last spot if they win. Well, I guess I did do a small dive. Also, a shout out to UNC Asheville. The road warriors scored with 8 seconds left at Gardner-Webb to get a point and clinch a Big South Conference Tournament berth. That also means High Point is the outright Big South regular season champion and the #1 seed for the conference tourney.
UMD's Koehl injured his leg right (announcer may have guessed achilles) before HT against UCLA last Monday and he hasn't played since. When he left the match UMD was up 1-0. They wound up drawing that match. In Michigan, he was on the sidelines in a boot and on crutches. I am not sure that MD will win another match this season if he does not return.
I talked to coach last night after the game. Ties are broken in the following order: head-to-head, then overall point differential. If OSU wins on Sunday, they and IU will be co-champions. Right now IU is +1 vs OSU in goal differential so, unless OSU beats MD by more than one goal, IU will be the #1 seed. If OSU win.
Really? The Big West goes to goals scored, then goals against, then how did you do vs. the standings starting at the top, and they may even go to RPI after that.
You're right about the 1 goal win - we'd be tied. The tiebreaker scenario is anything but clear. The B1G website doesn't really have anything about soccer tiebreakers. It's also likely that they could use performance against common opponents before goal differential or random draw. In that case, if OSU wins they are likely to get the #1 seed bacause they beat MD and we lost to them. This is from the 2016 women's tourney: " The Conference champion and the seeding for the tournament shall be based on the final standings of Conference regular-season play as determined by a point system. For seeding purposes in the Conference postseason tournament, ties between two teams will be broken as follows: Head-to-head results Most wins in all Conference games; Best record by points (3=win, 1=tie, 0=loss) versus mutually-played conference teams seeded above the teams tied at the beginning of the process (canceled games shall not be awarded any points for seeding purposes); Goal differential with a maximum difference of three, plus or minus counted for each conference game; Most goals scored in Conference competition; Best record determined by points versus mutually-played conference teams seeded below tied teams; and Coin flip." That's all I could find.
So, just following up while trying not to hurt my shoulder patting myself on the back! MD since 1-1 against UCLA Lost 0-2 to Michigan Lost 1-3 to Rutgers Lost 1-2 to tOSU UCLA on Thursday....
