According to a thread in the Power forum, FC Energy had to cancel a match with the Power due to visa problems or something like that. Anyone heard if this match is still a go with the Freedom next week?

im beginning to wonder since the freedom havent cancelled their game that the "visa problems" the power expirienced were caused by nobody buying tickets?

we are talking about the power and an unknown russian side here after all.

Do you think they'd cancel the match b/c of the sniper attacks?

Didn't they cancel that big ass soccer tourney? WAGS or whatever it's called cuz of safety concerns for everyone?

I got an email from Charlotte Holmes this morning indicating that the game's being cancelled due to safety concerns.

My friends father helps to organize the WAGS tournament and Yes it was cancelled. Its one of the largest tournaments and there are something like 140 teams from all over the world. That must have been scary for all of the teams traveling here from outside of the DC area....to be placed right in the middle of a freaking war zone!!!

It doesn't surprise me either that the tournament was cancelled, everything here is being cancelled: homecomings, sports events (little league and child's soccer games..ect), out door festivals..its just not safe right now!

I know the situation is scary, but the real fact of the matter is that the bigger risk in coming to the tournament was driving to get there, not the one-in-umpteen-million chance of being shot. People need to get a sense of proportion instead of panicking.

What do you mean that the bigger risk was driving to get to the tournament?

And I have perception..but the people who travel into the area are probably scared out of their minds..would you want to travel to an area you don't know where there is some psycho is on the lose? I know I wouldn't. And there's still a chance of being killed by this sniper..its not like he's going to say, oh she's with the soccer tournament...i won't shoot her...everybody is a potential victim.
And the war zone comment was a joke...that's what the news has been saying DC was...a war zone....

Statistically it would have been a bigger risk to one's life to drive, or fly to the tournament than the odds of being selected by the sniper. Are people scared? Yes. Should people be a little more catious? Yes. Should people never leave their homes until this guy is caught for fear that they might be shot? Probably not, that's the perspective part. Yes there's a chance of being shot by this guy, but there is a much higher chance of being killed in a car accident or being mugged, but does this stop people from performing their daily activities? No, just like this psychopath shouldn't stop people from living their lives, maybe with a little more caution.

I know that there is a higher chance of being killed by car/ airplance crashes, but what I'm trying to say is that's not the reason why they are cancelling everything. Its dangerous every year to drive/fly to the DC area for this tournament, but its cancelled this year because of the sniper. That's all I meant. That its more dangerous this year than any other year and that it doesn't surprise me at all that they cancelled.

A freedom flyer came out saying this...

Oh well... maybe next time the FC Energy swings by here we won't have a sniper shooter off-ing random people in the area.

    I don't get it....

FC Energy cancels a match with the Power due to visa issues. Yet they are still playing the Freedom at RFK in a closed door match.

power fans are just like project mayhem...they do not exist ;)

i think "visa problems" meant "no one cared to buy tickets"

sucks about the sniper...can someone catch that a$$hole already!!!!

From a security standpoint, I'd have said keep the game on. There's only one way in and out of the Germantown complex, the stadium is a long ways off the residential road you enter the complex from and, with any competent security, the sniper making himself known there would almost guarantee capture. I would have attended.

BUT - most fans probably don't realize this and would not have shown up anyway. So, why take any chances when there would have been incredibly little to gain by playing in front of a hundred fans or so.

While it's disappointing not to have one more opportunity to get together and pull for our team, the Crusaders are planning some viewing parties for the Gold Cup matches. A separate thread will be started for info on those.
