I'm curious. I sure as hell won't be at a Watch party for Morelia but will the Fire host an actual watch party at this same place for an actual regular season Fire match. Someone on the Boards should able to answer this one.
Bump. I think the restaurant is in the Little Village area. I have not eaten at it but I''ll bet it is good. I was up most of the night following the India-Paakistan match at the Cricket World Cup and just got back from Japanese class. I can't go this time but next time I'll try to make it!
Well, I went down and just got back (stopped some places on the way back). It was pretty easy to get in there from the suburbs (took 75th to 55, north on Pulaski to 26th and it's two streets to the east; the intersection is Springfield and 26th) Seemed like plenty of parking within a couple blocks, most of the area is blocked off for residents, but I found a few spaces pretty easily down near Atlante Club at Springfield and 28th. Staff seemed friendly, food was pretty good. Budweiser apparently paid for a buffet of sorts, and for free soda/budweiser. There was a good looking Bud rep there handing out strange blinking buttons and they held a raffle for people who looked hispanic to go to some sort of concert (she came around to me and said I looked like I didn't want to go to this concert, and that if I did, I could probably pay for tickets since I was a Fire fan, which I found very strange). There were a good number of Monarchas fans who showed. The place isn't very large, probably about 100 capacity. There was also a fire rep (Isabel? Elizabeth? sorry) and a few other people who looked like they might be official fire types but I didn't recognize any of them. First half of the game was pretty terrible, IMHO. Not much in the way of chances for Monarchas, and I spent a lot of the first half trying to figure which team was which, Monarchas were wearing a blue and puce kit, which I hadn't seen before (the huge MFL buff that I am). Jaguares got the only goal of the first half, and the restaurant was pretty darn quiet through halftime. Monarchas equalized in the second after what looked like a bad low pass into the box was drilled in, it was a very nice goal, the keeper had no chance. There were a couple missed opportunities shot wide by each side, and Monarchas ultimately took the game on what should have been a breakaway 1 on 1 with the opposing keeper, but the winger was too slow, and instead put a nice cross to a fellow Monarchas player who was pretty much dead in front of the goal by that point. The game did not strike me as particularly well played, especially by Monarchas in the first half and pretty much everyone in the second half. Pace was quite slow (I'm sure it's damn hot down there these days).
Jeremy, thanks for giving us an account of the event. There are some very interesting things near there. I was going to post them yesterday but..... Maybe I will try later.
