    everything runs til 2005

anyone worried how NOTHING goes beyond 2005?

garbers contract, owners' commitment, sponsorships, tv deals, etc....

we have 3 more season before the verdict is due....

Yeah I'm worried. I'm always worried. But I am less worried with Garber at the helm for 3 more years.

In a weird way, that makes me less worried. It gives us something to measure thngs by. There was progress last year. There will be a new stadium this year.

If things keep improving, the 2005 deadline looks less imposing. If things stagnate or go backwards, then it's bad. But at least we have a clue of what they are looking at.

Actually, Twellman's contract runs beyond that.

Of course, if the league shut down, they'd have a player firesale.

If the US qualifies for Germany 2006, which we would learn in the later part of 2005, there is no way that they would shut down MLS....

If we don't and things don't continue to improve? Who knows. Much will have to do with our economy....

I guess the league's been talking to Moore's agent after all. It's the last time I bitch about the league without getting the facts first. (Sure.)

Well, doesn't SUM run through 2006?

    Not that that's much assurance.

Count me in as one who's glad to keep Garber aboard. He hasn't been the savior, but it takes a while to trun around a ship that was sinking faster than a drum of oil.

Repeat after me: new investors and SSS, new investors and SSS.

Didn't Josh Wolff sign something like a 7 year deal before the Cup?

Well, considering as how SUM purchased the English-language (US) broadcasting rights to the World Cup in 2006, I'd assume that entity would exist until then.

By that time, I wonder if Regal Entertainment will start broadcasting recaps of the games prior to movies in its theaters.

According to the Washington Post article, JMM may be playing in England's Division 1 soon.

"Meantime, Hudson said he has spoken with U.S. national team players Earnie Stewart and Joe-Max Moore about joining United. He wouldn't go into detail about the conversation with Stewart, who plans to sign with MLS after 14 seasons in the Dutch league, but did say that Moore has a "pretty firm offer back in England and it's ready to be signed.""

It will be interesting to see where JMM ends up considering that BS posters often rate MLS equal to Division 1.

Regal tested this idea by doing a college football game this season. I read about it in SI. Would not be surprised to see this for the WC in 2006 - you'd have to pay, but you get a party atmosphere (and maybe some extra effects).

Who was it who assured us that Garber was about to resign about a year ago? Was that the iwarp douchebags? Or somebody else?

In a way, I like that everything runs out in 2005. At least then things are in black-and-white. It's pass/fail. That's pretty much a hard deadline, as we'd get a resolution, for better or worse. If it's better, terrific. Because I think that will mean we'll have perhaps another SSS or two and another investor (and perhaps expansion). If you don't see any of those things happen between now and then, that would be a negative leading indicator.

If it's worse, that means it can't be done. I think there'll always be a league of some sort in this country, but I don't think it'll be on the scale of MLS for many, many years again if these guys can't get it done.

can someone confirm for me the sponsorships ALL are committed only to 2005? i don't remember this.

the tv deal is actually through 2006, isn't it?

i thought the owners commitment was through 2006 as well. my memory may not be serving me well however.

the NTC and Columbus Crew stadium won't die in 2005, will they?

i'm not sure we should read too much into this as if "2005 or die" is our rallying cry. the fact that garber's contract only runs through 2005 may simply mean the owners want some results from Don Juan by then, i.e., new investors and/or new SSS. everything else may just be circumstance, happenstance or pure chance.

i guess all i'm saying is maybe we're reading too much into this.

It's 2006. We regret the error.

The television contract runs through the 2006 MLS season (http://www.mlsnet.com/content/01/mls0102wctv.html), not 2005.

The league's deal with adidas runs through the 2005 season (http://www.mlsnet.com/content/02/mls0219adidas.html)

The investors are committed through 2006 (http://www.sweetspotsoccer.com/headlines/a/2001/12/07.html), not 2005.

Obviously, committment, schommittment if you're bleeding money still by that point. But ostensibly it gives us more breathing room.
