From the Herald article about the Wolf trade.... The final deal had to be completed by the weekend to meet league salary-cap rules, but it won't be announced until later this month for undisclosed reasons. Now what the hell could "undisclosed reasons" mean?
The Edmond article is interesting because Edmond & Tulsa may get pre-season matches as a possible expansion test. Its a great idea, and could actually pump a little enthusiasum & $$ into the pre-season.
May be related to the non-soccer reasons that the Hristo trade hasn't been completed yet (see the Post article).
I can't help being a little curious about what other cities are going to be hosting preseason games. We've known about OKC and Tulsa for a while, but other places have been vague and mysterious.
This was from the Star-Ledger article: "The MetroStars, for the first time in history, will have a weekday matinee game, Wednesday, Aug. 13 at noon against the Wizards." Anyone have an idea why they are doing this? When people complain that weekday night games don't draw well, and that the league needs to find an "alternative," this isn't really going to solve the problem. So the kids are out from school in the summer, but how many of their parents are going to take a day off from work to bring them to the game? Tom
This has the potential to be an annual fixture - if marketed properly. First of all, the Metros would probably only draw about 7,500 fans for a Wed. evening match, so why not try to make lemonade? It could be billed as a special business lunch match, or could be kiddie camp day. I think there a lots of marketing possibilities.
Rumor yesterday was they wanted to make a big splash and announce it at the draft. Now they'll have to settle for just introducing him there.

Re: Re: 1/7/03: Wheeling and Dealing i saw the quote in the ny times. it'll be interesting to see if the schedule comes out today or not. the article also says the Metros open against the Crew on the 12th, and then play the 14TH v. the Galaxy. i can't imagine why'd they only have one day off, but who knows.
