    Ronnie's Back
The Earthquakes received some good news late Tuesday evening when MLS Best XI midfielder Ronnie Ekelund re-signed with the team. Ekelund, 30, signed a multi-year deal with the club that assures the potent midfield combination of Ekelund and Mulrooney will be together again.

Other news from day 2 of camp as well.

The center of the midfield is once again solid. I sure would like to see a trade, discovery player or whatever to strengthen the outside of midfield though.

The way things have been going lately, i'm actually happy with Russell and Lagos still being on the team. :D

Seems that little dance that spejic did ala-Tom Cruise in Risky Business(in BVD's wearing Brose Replica Clash Home Jersey) was a bit premature. :D

It's all about Mulrooney and if Eklund upstages him again the midfield won't be as good as '01.

IMO the Quakes are better off when Richard is the buzzer who's around the ball all the time, and Ronnie takes a back seat, reads the game and chooses when to assert himslef defensively or offensively.

I disagree. It's all about keeping every quality player we have at this point. Ronnie's one of the best. We can worry about who ends up taking prominence later, if at all.

P.S. I think you spelled "himself" wrong.

When I start disagreeing with myself, it's time for a Milwakee's Best Ice!

    Drink it!!! ARGHHH!!!

Welcome back Richard & Ronnie, the ambiguously deadly duo!

this is the best thing you guys could've heard at this point.

i'm very happy for all of MLS as Ronnie is pure class and only 30. i didn't know that (i though he was older). key term was "multi-year." good to hear.

Ronnie had to be more offensive.....Lagos and Russell weren't....Ronnie can play like Ronnie 2001 if Russell and Lagos do their jobs.

If only we can get Lagos to play like the Lagos of 2001... let's raise a toast to our midfield's health.

What a relief! I was starting to dread the prospects of this season when I thought about the team sans Mulrooney and Ekeleund. I believe that collectively they are more important than Landon, but that will be our little secret.

Take into consideration these two were heavily injured throughout the season; so now that they've had ample time to recuperate, I believe our midfield will be as strong as 2001. It's just the defensive line that has me in disarray.

in today's Murky, they said that Ekelund's deal is one year with an option for next year....not very multi-year to me....

but i am so glad he is back....

Believe me, I pray to the soccer gods that injuries were the reason that Lagos and Russell weren't to snuff.

It was sad seeing Manny walk (limp) off the field after games last year. If the problem was bone spurs, and if he didn't have major surgery during the offseason, then he won't be any better.

I have no reason to think it was bone spurs other than the way he was limping. Does anyone know what his injuries were?
