The game should be announced soon - according to the USA forums. It will be played on the West coast of the USA. I'm sure we will see a better team then the last time we play the Americans in January. Well.... at least I hope so.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada I hope it happens can hardly wait for this match as it'll be a great test. I'm hopeful we'll have our best for this one. It's not often Canada has the opportunity to play a top 10 ranked team, unlike other years this has been a good one as they've played Portugal and Spain.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada Don't hold your breath on that one, this game will not be played during an international break...expect a Gold Cup type lineup
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada If that's the case then they should schedule it when they can field the best.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada Well it was announced a few weeks back that Canada was going to have a January training camp in the USA. This game just happens to be part of the training camp, so it makes sense. We will probably see players from Sweden/Norway; possibly a few players from England who are not playing with the first team (ie Jamie Peters); and maybe a few USL/MLS players.

Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada Yeah and at this point, we don't need a team that can beat the US. We just need a team that can beat Costa freaking Rica.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada I don't think the ranking has anything to do with it. We're trying to prepare for a world cup and I think we'll use most of our match dates to play European teams. When Canada qualifies for the next hex you'll see a good regional rivalry start to emerge.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada European teams are good and all, but as I'm sure you know it wouldn't hurt to play a few African or Asian teams. The US could always try to play an African team in Europe.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada so is this a confirmed friendly 100% i hope so because i want to know how good they do against canada vs. my beloved italia for the WC. so anyone can confirm this match and the time?
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada Click on the link in post 6 of this thread, the info should be there. The match is definitely confirmed. Not sure how much of an indicator it will be for the World Cup, given that the match is in January on a date not fixed for internationals its likely that neither Canada nor the US will be anywhere near their strongest, with many European-based players missing.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada It is the case. Both teams are using the game as part of their respective training camps. The US have a camp in January and Canada also has a camp in the same area during January. Expect to see some USL players who are in the off season as well as players from Norway and Sweden.
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada Does anyone know the squad Canada is gonna bring for this match?Any travelling Canadians comin down for this one? It could start a fun rivalry....
Re: 1/22/06 USA vs Canada I don't think too many Canadian supporters will be coming from Canada. Perhaps there will be some from the West Coast? I'm sure our squad will have a number of players from Norway, and Sweden. I think a few USL players have been called up as well because they are in their off season. The players in Norway and Sweden will be on their winter break.

Canadian squad for USA friendly - Jan 22 Press release from www.canadasoccer.com Canadian Head Coach, Frank Yallop, has announced his squad of 19 players for Canada’s upcoming friendly against the USA on January 22 in San Diego, California. The Canadians will hold their training camp from January 8–20 in Carson, CA before traveling to San Diego on January 20 for the first match of 2006 for both countries. The match will be played at Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego. Kickoff has been set for 5:00pm PT. Tickets ranging in price levels from $25 to $90 are currently available at ussoccer.com, at the University of San Diego’s Jenny Craig Pavilion Box Office (Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and by phone at 619-260-7550 (Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Groups of 15 or more can purchase tickets through the University of San Diego by calling 619-260-7550. Yallop has recalled eight players from the squad that beat Luxembourg 1-0 in mid-November. The youngest of those eight, Will Johnson, is presently with Dale Mitchell’s U20 team in Guadalajara, Mexico, but will join the squad following Canada’s involvement in the Chivas Cup. Viking midfielder, Sandro Grande, has returned to the squad since recovering from the niggling calf strain that kept him out of the Luxembourg game. Armed with a new contract and club, Goteborg striker, Ali Gerba, has also recovered sufficiently from a series of knocks and strains and is fit for selection. The Montreal Impact is well represented and will be sending six players to sunny California. Adam Braz, Gabe Gervais, and Greg Sutton were regular contributors in 2005 and have been recalled to Yallop’s squad. Joining them will be defenders Nevio Pizzolitto and Andre Hainault and midfielder Patrick Leduc. The trip will be Hainault’s first with the senior squad. Molde striker Rob Friend, who had declined the invite to Luxembourg due to club commitments, makes a long-awaited return to the national team fold. Toronto-native Adrian Serioux will also be back since his departure from Millwall in the fall of 2005. Serioux left the London-based club in late September for personal reasons and is presently unattached, but has been entertaining offers from several clubs interested in the midfielder’s services. “I am looking forward to these two weeks with the squad,” said Head Coach Frank Yallop. “It’s not often we get a chance to have our players for an extended training camp prior to a friendly so from that perspective, this is a welcome opportunity.” “It will also allow us the luxury of playing two or three scrimmages during the camp (in Carson), which is something we have been unable to do in the past.” Yallop is also fully aware of the dangers the Americans pose, even without many of their European regulars. “I know the US will be without many of their European-based players but they still have the ability to put together a very talented ‘domestic-based squad’, as was witnessed throughout the World Cup qualifying rounds and the last Gold Cup. A lot of guys will be keen to show Bruce (Arena) that they are capable of contributing to his World Cup squad, so they will take this game, and the games against Norway and Japan very seriously.” “2006 will be an important year for us,” concluded Yallop. “It’s vital that we solidify our pool of regular players this year and begin to move towards establishing a 'team' that will compete for the 2007 Gold Cup, and of course qualifying for South Africa, which will likely start in 2008.” Following the US game… Following the match against the USA, Canada’s Men’s National Team has agreed to an international friendly on March 1st, 2006 (the next available International Match Date on the FIFA coordinated International Calendar) against Austria. The match will be played at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria. Kick-off has tentatively been scheduled for 8:30pm local time. Roster – Canada Men’s National Team Player Pos. Re: Canadian squad for USA friendly - Jan 22 All of the players are either in the winter off season or simply unattached. Not a bad squad called up and certainly on paper they are stronger then the last Canadian side that faced the Americans in a January friendly. Hmmmm.... 10 international goals scored by the players on this roster with 7 of those coming from de Rosario. The game is at 5:00pt? Hmmm... that is 1am in England... looks like it will be a late night of getting text updates.
Re: Canadian squad for USA friendly - Jan 22 This is a much better squad than the last friendly and hopefully will lead to a better result than the Gold Cup scoreline. Any idea if Sportsnet is showing the match? BTW, it looks like we posted the roster at the exact same time...
