i wish all involved the best of luck...i would love nothing more than to see another team in St. Louis at The Scottrade Center...it's been amost three years (my how time flies) since we lost The Steamers and miss indoor soccer dearly.....so hopefully something can happen and hopefully the NISL and XSL will get it together and merge back into one league...
I would love for St.Louis to return I wanted to drive down for a game and then they bowed out for the year I was going to go Make a trip of it..see the arch / brewery / etc.
I can tell you that getting good weekend dates and rent is NOT a factor. The Scottrade Center will indeed work with the team. If the two guys organizing everything can put the investors together in the next couple of months, it'll happen. The plan is to get things organized now so they can run summer camps leading into the fall season. More phone calls and meetings will be taking place during the next few weeks in an attempt to get the details worked out.
Alter Ego, you may be on to something. I have been a serious NHL and MISL fan for 30 years and my memories with the old MISL made me realize, even as a wee lad, that crowd figures in the low four digits mean you don't go out and buy any green bananas. I was just at the Ironmen Friday night game against Chicago, in Newark. I literally counted 2,040 people in the building and I openly suspect that reflected ushers, comps, team personnel, etc. (I've posted more about this elsewhere.) In addition, there is a lot about the XSL which just screams "bush league." I just don't see the level of play being that much higher above semipro or local immigrant leagues (which in Northern New Jersey probably means it's higher than some USL teams!). (Remember, one whistle means direct free kick, two whistles means run like hell it's the feds.) I got the serious impression that half the crowd was hoping to "be seen" in order to be "noticed" in order to advance their career. This goes from the Ironmen dancers (what, the local strip joint stopped hiring?) to the PA announcer. Everything here screamed MEDIOCRITY.
...u mean piss on the arch , drive to a gas station where you are the only white guy there and there is an ambulance there as well, and then go to Washington Park, IL to Larry Flint's Hustler Club... ...thats what you really wanted to do...at least I did those...not on the same trip however.
um NO, thats not what I meant I have been there a couple of times and it can be a pretty city I happen to like the arch, and maybe I will go down it the spring and catch a cardinals game
thank you GoStorm...it seems to be a trendy thing among a lot of St. Louisans to knock our fine city...they seem to think the grass is greener everywhere but here..instead of concentrating on what we don't have i wish people could appreciate the things right in front of their faces..
this is a great country with many wonderful amenities in a variety of cities People look at Chicago - New york - Los Angeles - Louisville etc. and think bad things - well I happen to look at the world with rose colored glasses and find beauty everywhere I look and places I walk Just as you will never see me downgrade another team or Storm for that matter - things can always improve - but you must always play the hand you are dealt - you cannot hand pick the cards you want, and you can turn some in and get a few different ones but then you play the game with what you have in your hand I like camping / my wife will not go..so I go with friends Just as Forest Gump says - "Life is like a box of chocolates" Life is to short to fight it / live it for all it's worth / make the best & most of it Have a wonderful day yall
I'm an Arch-ophile myself. I've been to St. Louis 3 or 4 times and always enjoyed it. And the tales of murder can be misleading. Baltimore has a high murder rate, but I read that 80% of ths victims had a criminal record. So if you're just a tourist or just minding your own business in the city your odds of being safe are pretty high.
Just like Chicago / everybody thinks gangsters & gangs and shootings & mugging - Chicago is not safe Well, Hate to tell you but the City of Chicago is visited by a LOT of tourists that have no problems - every city or some tourist can tell you they got mugged on a visit but that is a small precentage compared to those who did not My father went to Spain and he got robbed by a taxi driver - but he said he would go back and not tell people do not go there just because I got robbed - it happens , but seldom You cannot lock yourself in a house and be afraid to visit the world - get out and enjoy yourself And firstoff - go to St.Louis...haha
What no XSL news????????????????????????????????????????????? Hey the NISL named Barney Fife commissioner. This news makes Loftin look good. Watch out Barney been promoted from deputy to sheriff and he has one bullet.
What is the history of the NISL commish? What is he about and why do a lot of people have a negative view about him
I wonder how much money the XSL teams are losing? Attendance is down across the board in the XSL. New Jersey is comical they play in a huge Arena and it is empty. They have the best team on paper and the team is totally under performing. Chicago no fans and a terrible product on the field. Milwaukee attendance is way down, they have a bunch on new players no one has ever heard of. Detroit is in first place and most of their sellout fans show up dressed as blue seats. Honestly this XSL experiment can't be going well.
Things are NOT looking well in any of the leagues. We need only one league with a geographical mix that makes sense. Rockford and Springfield are a joke. What is happening in Newark? Stockton needs west coast competition. One league despite all of the out of control egos. We are going through a depression and a few people need to suck it in.
Rockford is not a joke, they are a team in the making. The supporters group is going to be getting bigger and better and there will be more fans coming in. What other indoor team webcasts all their games now, for FREE?!? Did hear a rumor from someone that was up north at the Storm Wave gm on Superbowl Sunday...i have not gotten any confirmations of the rumor but before long im pretty sure it will ring true.
Is ther rumor, that there was someone at the Storm game on Super Bowl Sunday?? I can confirm that rumor as fact. There was someone at the game.
Headhunter, what is your opinion of the on field struggles of the Ironmen this season? On paper they look great and very talented, however on the field they have played very slow and poorly. I went out on a limb at the beginning of the season and said the Ironmen were the best team in indoor soccer in any league. Well I was so wrong.
Wow I think this blockbuster signing will turn the Storm's entire season around. This is probably a $25 dollar a game deal.
I spoke with an Ignition player today and he told me that Sampson is out for the year with an achiles injury.
